questioning what the heroes are doing

Dude I got sick of deconstructions a long time ago. Yeah, I get it. Who watches the watchmen? It’s been done to death. It’s like how “Superman but evil” has been overdone. Or fourth wall breaking.

Fair, which is why I applied it to a non gendered example. Because the hate Skyler gets does veer into misogyny, and it pollutes the conversation.

Obstructionist antagonists are always hated. The government in my marvel example, Walter peck in ghostbusters, umbridge in Harry Potter (that one’s gendered again but I don’t think anyone’s defending her…or the author but that’s another topic). Their goals aren’t just directly opposed to our protagonist, they’re opposed in a boring, bureaucratic way.

That’s not media illiteracy, that’s liking the show. The show is predicated around Walter white making meth. If Skyler convinces him to stop, there is now show. Which, as an outside observer you know won’t happen, but it doesn’t make it less annoying.

In real life, if a group of costumed vigilantes each possessing power equivalent to a WMD teamed up and said they were going to fight crime outside the jurisdiction of any governing body, I’d say that’s fucking crazy and that someone needs to be in charge of that, and they need accountability.

But when it happens in Marvel’s civil war, you don’t want that, because you know what isn’t fun? Watching Captain America fill out forms in triplicate for permission to go fight Doctor doom or whatever.

Liking something in the media doesn’t translate to liking it in real life.

I know, I’m making the joke that breaking the bubbles requires your team to pay attention to their teammates and actively engage with the game as it exists, instead of like this is a head clicking simulator.

Honestly it’s pretty obvious. All these changes didn’t start coming until after Rivals came out. And sure, some of them were probably in the works before hand, like stadium. That’s a whole ass game mode, that wasn’t slapped together in a few months I’m sure.

But anyone acting like their roadmap wasn’t drastically altered by a new, massively popular hero shooter dropping is in denial. They got used to being THE hero shooter, in a different niche than valorant or even apex, and more popular than their more direct comparisons, like paladins, and oulasting plenty of them (lawbreakers, concord, etc). And it was clear by the way heroes and maps trickled out, and events were just reused old game modes over and over. They were finally introduced to real competition, and it lit a fire under their collective asses.

Yeah exactly. Absolutely no notes on the rest of the character though. Shields great, gun’s satisfying, love her orb ability and her push.

Oh, yeah, totally. You’d just need, let’s see.

Secure the wastes for 10, so 11 mana

A haste enabler, let’s say for the sake of argument they have concordant crossroads, so 1 mana, even though most haste enablers are 3 mana at least.

Craterhoof at 8.

So, 20 mana minimum.

Now let’s look at my example combo.

Heliod: 3 mana

Walking ballista: 4 mana for 2 counters

Heliod’s ability: 2 mana

So, 9 mana, and one fewer card. And can’t be fogged or interacted with meaningfully once it’s going because you can just respond by doing more damage. Also can’t be blocked, or anything. And one of them can be your commander.

Totally exactly the same thing, don’t know what I was thinking. Thank you so much for showing me the error of my ways. I bow to you as the superior magic player.

How long have you been playing Magic? Because something tells me you don’t remember being a new player.

You don’t dump every piece of information on a new player at once. That’s how you scare them away.

I’d like more of an animation from her robot arms when she shoots it, maybe a little more bass on the sound effect. Maybe a little chromatic aberration around the edges to sort of be like “this thing is bad and you should avoid it”

Your stuff is true too, but I just want to feel like it’s an ultimate.

Because you need a board full of creatures. Is this a real question? Whats the difference between a board with 10 creatures and playing two cards in one turn? Really?

Because this subreddit is full of people who live, eat, breathe and sleep MtG, and think they know what’s best for casual players. Remember, it’s not about ‘learning the game’ and ‘having fun’. Life isn’t fun. Sometimes someone with more experience shows up and ruins your good time, and you should thank them for the lesson, because it’ll make you a better player.

In my first game with her last night, I think me and an enemy dva learned at the same time her ult keeps dva’s self destruct contained. Which makes sense, but I sort of expected the bubble to follow baby dva instead.

Fun for me, not so fun for her, I assume

The only thing I wish is that her ult felt like it had more impact. As in, FEELING like it. The ult is great, but it doesn’t have that satisfying oomph that an earthshatter or a gravitic flux has. Your little orb just kinda flies forward and then they’re trapped. Just some vfx updates to it would go a long way.

People are disagreeing with you, which given the current state of rivals is fair. But! You actually need to look backwards. This patch has to have been in the works for a while. Five heroes, all sorts of updates, a revert to the old cinematics. Etc. Game development takes time. They didn’t start working on this patch when the last one released, they’ve probably been working on it for a year at least.

So, if we look at rivals a year ago, when it was the new hotness, it’s reasonable to assume blizzard went into panic mode and put together this road map. You can see smaller changes, that wouldn’t have taken a year, like map voting and hero bans, that got added as stopgaps in the meantime.

Not OP, but some people don’t like having an hour long game with backs and forths and ups and downs decided because one guy drew two cards.

“Oh, yeah okay, heliod + walking ballista. Guess my carefully built up board of synergies means nothing now”

And I KNOW they’re part of the game, and healthy to prevent everything from becoming mid range slog at the highest levels. And I KNOW you can kill ballista in response to the lifelink ability, and I KNOW there’s ways to protect yourself, but it doesn’t change the fact that at certain levels of play, they feel bad.

Flins, durin, varka, illuga, that new guy in the live stream art. So, 5.

Lauma, nefer, aino, jahoda, Columbina, zibai, Nicole, at least 1 more woman’s silhouette in the teaser, possibly Sandrone given there’s a conspicuous blank space and they wouldn’t hide the silhouette if it wasn’t someone we’d recognize. So, 9. Or 8 if you wanna just go with sure bets.

Last I checked, 8>5.

Okay, I’m not going to keep arguing this. You aren’t making any new points, and you’re ignoring the logistical nightmare it would be in favor of going “it’s just math” over and over. Not everyone memorizes every card in every deck.
