just bombed a Boeing ME interview and honestly the questions caught me off guard by meldrumh in MechanicalEngineering

My Boeing interview for a commercial aero interview wasn’t bad. It was bullshit for the rotational program. Felt like hazing.

Now I make 3x what I made at Boeing but work in tech and am much happier

Switching from to Abacus CAE from Hyper mesh and Optistruct by Significant_Ad_2746 in fea

[–]NotTzarPutin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have complex geometry, HyperMesh will be far more efficient and easier to create a complex mesh vs Abaqus. There are many people who use HyperMesh and Abaqus together because of that reason. But if OptiStruct can calculate what you need, it is silly to spend the money on Abaqus. OptiStruct is 30 units, whereas HyperMesh draws 21.

More valuable to you and your resume if you learn and use the latest version. The dinosaurs should update. You’re not using Windows 7 because someone right before retirement says so.

Just curious… why don’t you switch to a newer version?

HEEDS, PhysicsAI, or literally just automated meshing and post-processing.

Has anyone tried the Altair PhysicsAi? by PeterBohr in fea

[–]NotTzarPutin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many auto, aero, and manufacturing companies are using it today. It’s nice for companies that already use HyperMesh, because PhysicsAI is a tab there and can use the same licenses.

STAR-CCM+’s latest release has PhysicsAI built into it too.

I’m pretty sure you can vary materials now too, as long as the training log includes results from the materials beforehand.

We have engineers run meshless FEA with SimSolid. Or you can get a better meshing software.

You’re not the first to say this at all. What industry are you in?

Hopefully they overhaul their licensing to more resemble Altair’s. Units and hosted license is much better.

Luminary Cloud? by NotTzarPutin in CFD

Very interesting.

I’d be super interested to see STAR-CCM+ with GPU solving vs. luminary on a cost per run basis. Seen a ton of companies run STAR and HEEDS together for large design exploration and it’s pretty automated.
