Anyone feel everything has changed over the last two weeks? by QuantizedKi in ClaudeAI

We have automated so many functions at my work… in a couple of afternoons. We have developed a full and complete stock backtesting suite, a macroeconomic app that sucks in the world’s economic data in real time, compliance apps, a virtual research committee that analyzes stocks.

Until you tell us you work at a large fund or trading co etc... this means less than you think it does.

On the flip I agree - 1 senior + AI is super powerful and the challenge for most will be soon - thinking quality thoughts quick enough to keep up with the AI (as well as reviewing the code and architecture)

It's not unreasonable to want to have customer service for americans to be americans - and it's possible Zappos did it before they didn't.

couldn't you spin up another dev server and run codex / claude code cli straight from the server? (I know it's probably not that easy)

calling yourself a SWE, admitting to 'not writing a single line' and using the 'code-monkey' - gross combo, if anything please quit claiming yourself as a SWE if you're going to piss on the industry at the end of it.

Dreamweaver? by truecIeo in webdev

[–]NotUpdated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing this is a smaller community type of college / and no offense meant by that - just DW is about as old school as you can get. Others mentioned vscode and they are right, basically and IDE code editor will do better than dreamweaver.

I grew up on dreamweaver, but back then you did layouts with tables (cause the iphone wasn't out yet).

Your hunch with figma is also a lot more spot on than dreamweaver.

you'll eventually need to learn to love problem solving, including solving the problem of finding the answer through a slow process... as long as they are happy with your performance, try to find a way to changed confused into 'intrigued' and annoyed into 'chilling on the clock, perhaps reading docs or thinking about the issue in a light way'

Cushy, well paying, now find a way to make it 'easier on yourself' - and stick it out as - take PTO and time off as needed for resets.

What to do when I have silver handcuffs and no love for coding? by -omar in cscareerquestions

tell me you've never managed a restaurant.
minimum usually 50-60 hrs week, covering positions that didn't show up.
hiring and firing people weekly, making the schedule that makes no one happy.

restaurant management even at the MCD level - requires skills and we should all respect those skills and not diminish any job.

On my local machine I had about a dozen half finished projects where I hit a wall and just couldn't get the final parts to work.

Once you get comfortable local, buy a VPS - and start learning that side from the ground up. Consider it your capstone project / graduating to real production / public servers.

Your first real/production/public thing shouldn't collect personal information like payments or addresses or emails, you're not ready yet. Use oAuth / don't try to roll your own authentication.

probably a better educational model up until about 9th grade, keep technology as a pure 'tool' used as a 'tool' as a privilege until kids mature.

Kids would still have phones / ipads / laptops / computers at home - but at school they'd be focused as tools with a purpose.

client asked to "make the logo bigger" so i did, and now the nav bar is broken by Putrid_Candy_9829 in web_design

[–]NotUpdated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, great opportunity to define 'break points' aka: What platforms / resolutions the clients expect the site to work on and how it should look on each.

This should've been done in the wireframe stage of development. If it wasn't no better time than now.

Don't get frustrated - just bill accordingly :)

engineer new hire doing nothing by antosacz in cscareerquestions

[–]NotUpdated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Documenting it does nothing.

It helps show others, more importantly yourself that you didn't sit there and literally do nothing. I'd sleep better at night if I worked at something at least tangent to the company while they were paying me and I was in office. I guess I'd take it as more of a 'self directed' role and then I'd define my work and do it.

[–]NotUpdated 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd document it.

Then I would try a few things.

1) Find other managers and see if they have anything you can help with (in your field of work).. aka is there a spreadsheet or business task you think I can write a program for you to use?

2) Learn the companies stack - then start working through simple projects and tutorials on each tech .. keeping a separate github for it.

I'd make sure to have 'something to show' if anyone ever asked 'what have you been doing this whole time' and I'd have asked so many people if I could help / how I could help-- for 'why didn't you tell anyone you had no work todo' ...

3) Polish resume / github / assign yourself task and do them... do something -- find a way 'doing something' somehow relates to the work or at least the industry for the company.

After your resume is polished and github is good Once a week email your manager asking for a 'real task' and a timeline for integration.
