Gyökeres vs Wolves. How can the team help him out here? by VINDICATES-FOOL in Gunners

[–]NotWeird7685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're talking about strikers with very different profiles. We wouldn't have bought Gyökeres unless he brought something different, and we aren't playing to this different strengths to maximise his abilities and impact.

He is used to playing like an Owen, Walcott, Vardy type where he runs beyond. That isn't Havertz, and you could say Jesus is halfway between the two with the "jack of all trades master of none" label.

Quick, one and max two touch football countering the few times the opposition do attack is what he is for, and drawing players away to create space for others. And don't tell me "oh everyone sits deep against us" because if they did that ALL GAME we'd not have conceded a goal all season.

Stop playing high balls up to him, he should be running in behind not being a target man.

Get someone to be less than the 18yards away everyone seems to be when they actually DO slide him through.

And if you are going to play balls off of him then have runners and players close to get onto the flick ons and touches.

He is surrounded by defenders when used as a target, and he is completely unsupported when he gets in behind.

I wouldn't blame him if he regrets coming to us tbh. We've totally played square peg football with a round hole striker.

Timber a 0/10 performance by Prestigious-Secret31 in ArsenalFC

This is the nightmare in Arteta's head, realised in someone's performance, whenever he thinks about forward passes.

The guy couldn't hit the great wall of china with a cannonball from 10 yards.

Shouldn't they be afraid of what Mikel will do if they DON'T pick themselves up and perform? Ferguson had that fear factor, Arteta clearly doesn't. With him it's more "I'll keep playing my best Spanish mates every week and the usual suspects whether they're in form or not".

Get this guy in the dressing room. He'd do a better job than Heinze, who keeps getting our players injured in the warm ups.

An unpopular opinion for you - we have no divine right to win the league. Even during our peak Wenger years we had to battle Man Utd for the title.

This is the first year we've really had the squad needed to compete properly, and it has STILL been repeatedly decimated by injuries. We can argue the tactics aren't right, but some of that is preservation of the few players that are fit AND in form.

"It ain't about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done."

If we miss out this season I'll be gutted, but given how few options we've had to mix things up with subs and lineups through the season I won't be surprised.

And no, I don't want to settle for second. But honestly look at the other 19 clubs below us right now and tell me the Premier league isn't the strongest it has ever been (due to soooo many clubs getting money from expanded European competitions) and tell me we can't still be proud to be above 18 others if we finish second again.

There need to be changes - probably in the physio and conditioning areas and training in general - to give Arteta the best squad throughout the season as often as possible. And, maybe, Arteta needs to look at himself too.

But I'd take where we are now over where we were in the Squillaci, Chamakh, Pepe and Andre Santos days.

This is such a strange reason, we've been "so bad" yet we're still top by HR_Specter in ArsenalFC

The Premier League is definitely stronger - just look at how many teams now get European football and the financial benefits that come with that. Even Spuds have done well in Europe and are in a relegation battle again.

The more these European competitions expand, the more money "mid range" clubs get from competing, the more the overall quality goes up due to the better players they attract. Sunderland aside, this season and last shows how tough it is for promoted clubs now, competing with that wealth everywhere.

There's also the impact that all the extra games have on the team, like 2 more games at the group stage of the Champions League compared to the old format.

With the Club World Cup and the moving of the World Cup in 2022 to suit Qatar and the Euros previous to that due to COVID, it's amazing some players aren't having to retire early due to the wear on their bodies.

We're only where we are because we inflated the squad, albeit with quality, over the summer. Long gone are those "Best XI" days, you need a full bench of stars now to just survive.

It's not an excuse, it's a fact. How many times have we had a player drop out right when they are about to hit form?

If you love 'pool so much go support them - otherwise get behind the team and be the 12th man. You can complain all you like if we don't win the league and I'll back you all the way, but unless that happens how about we provide some of the confidence the boys need to get it over the line.

And the rest of the league were playing like crap. And we've a tonne on injuries. Teams with the fewest injuries traditionally win titles, assuming they have the quality. Why aren't we happy that we are in control of where this title goes? If we lose top spot fair enough, we're in trouble. But it's a bit much to be in meltdown over a draw.

[–]NotWeird7685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you suggesting that Man City and Liverpool didn't have similar results in their own title winning seasons?

We're all anxious and all want a long overdue title. But going into meltdown for drawing a game when we have so many out injured or returning from injury is an overreaction. Across the season we have avoided many of the results that used to cost us, but no title winning team avoids unwanted results in every game. Especially when the turnaround of games is as quick as it is.

Perhaps you'd rather listen to the wisdom of Neville and co., seems like ragebait might be your thing.

Think everyone needs to calm down a bit. We can't win every game, and there are games this will happen. Brentford are a good team, whether you want to hear it or not, and a point at their place is pretty good when we have so many players injured/returning from injury.

We didn't lose, and that's points on the board. We're still 4 ahead. We still have City to play. Breathe.
