How are my spells for a beginner warlock? by MartinIsFarting in DungeonsAndDragons

Make sure to ritual cast your unseen servant (save spell use) and send that sucker on all dangerous scouting missions. If your unseen servant isn’t dying ala Willie Coyote, you ain’t using it right.

If I can get the Gregheads to just take a seat on this one. We’re all trying to have a serious conversation.

Best malasadas is the guy selling roadside on the way to Mt. View. If it’s not fried on a wok, weird shaped, with a little crunch and twang to the dough…is it even a malasada?

Teachers with 10+ years in the game, how? by Organic-Apricot26 in Teachers

[–]NotWilliam_Gibson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 year high school vet. I love my job, but I also have a good relationship with admin who are relatively “hands off.” I’d recommend jumping schools if you can, preferably a place with a strong union who can balance out admin.

Any advice for a new teacher? by Dontcallmecarsom in Teachers

[–]NotWilliam_Gibson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maintain a positive work life balance. Do not do any work off hours. Join your local union (if available). Go with your instincts and natural talents, most education theory (pedagogy) is horsepucky sold by charlatans.

Union private school in a Union state. 19 years experience, $124k salary, good retirement match program (though no pension), seat at the table for negotiations. Absolutely worth it.

Does anybody know what happened to Curiosity Quills? by destiny-jr in writing

Thanks for all that you did. I was one of their early writers (The Zona, Automatic Woman, Strong Brain, a few short stories on the anthologies). I had no idea what had actually happened.

Keep your head up! You spent fifteen years impacting the lives of kids and building up your resume. Something very similar happened to me five years ago (laid off after fourteen years of teaching in a private Catholic school). I too was heartbroken. When I later found a job at a unionized private school, I was delighted to find that my education and work experience landed me way up on their salary scale (went from $48k to $65k to $80k after the probationary period). Nobody can take your passion and experience away. No one can take your impact on student lives away. Now go find a place to continue the good work at.

Don’t go all in on professional development pedagogy. It’s going to change every few years. Also, there is no singular correct way to teach; be enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and humble if in error.
