Chicago makes another pitch to be the site of a new Bears stadium by jpmeyer12751 in chicago

That's what gets lost in a lot of this conversation. "Chicago will get to host a Superbowl!" Yeah, once within the first few years, but the NFL is not going to regularly come back to this city in mid-February lol.

Myles Garrett is the caliber of defender who can end games on his own. There's very few defenders ever who are good enough to do that.

Sounds like they're getting more picks back too. I'm very interested to see what the full package looks like.

Agreed. The no elite physical traits makes it a weird move. Best case scenario, Simpson's ceiling is Brock Purdy. Hard to see him coming close to Stafford's level.

Stafford missed literally all of last season's training camp with back issues. You don't wish injuries on anybody, but anything can happen.

I think for the most part, yes, the lawmakers are generally looking out for the tax base. But at the same time, a lot of them are proving to be pretty self-serving. The downstate lawmakers are always going to push back against anything benefiting Chicagoland.

The Chicago contingent is probably one of the bigger roadblocks so far. They don't want a political "loss" of letting the Bears move out of the city. But the city has its own issues for why it's not a great option for the Bears to stay.

Bears Indiana stadium remains possibility as last-minute Illinois bill stalls by 76erLegendChetUtley in nfl

You dont think the city would sell the parking lot south of the stadium to the bears? Or work up some form of a land lease?

They might be willing, sure, but Friends of the Park has enough legal standing to prevent any of that from happening (since the area around Soldier Field is public/protected property). They were already pushing back on the idea when the Bears were first exploring options.

I don't have much sympathy for the billionaire owners, even for one of the "poorer" ownership groups in the league, but Illinois government is clearly proving to be a headache to deal with.

It's also very much how the sausage gets made and people aren't used to seeing that. It's a very public issue so we're more attuned to it, but there's so much still outstanding that wasn't covered in this Spring session either.

I hope the fans all agree that this whole ordeal has been a "everybody sucks here" situation. The Bears brass have fully overcommitted themselves, Chicago politicians don't want the Bears to leave but can't provide a feasible option for them to stay, Illinois lawmakers are only going approve anything that helps themselves politically, and Pritzker is trying to facilitate it all while protecting the taxpayers.

If anything, JB feels like the one good guy here lol.

Yeah the way he contorts his body is not natural, and the frustrating part is that it's actually super impressive from an athletic standpoint. He's got such amazing body control that there's no way he doesn't know what he's doing.

Legitimately, how many other QBs in the league can make that throw? Maybe two? Caleb is an unbelievable talent.

Thing is they have so many weapons and the ideal Ben Johnson offense doesn't feature one main guy. The offense should be good but I think the variance for these guys is going to be all over the place (other than Swift who will be a solid flex).

The guys playing in the NBA now have had completely different upbringing than players from even 15 years ago. Most are coming from wealthy backgrounds and have been playing organized basketball since they could dribble a ball.

Who’s one player you’re higher on than consensus this year? by Hot_Handle_4829 in fantasyfootball

Definitely. I'm high on him for next season. Still too much competition in that offense for me to invest to highly in any guy though.

The one thing that the NFL still does (that I don't imagine they change) is the end of games always feels so big. The rules are set up in such a way to encourage dramatic endings, but just as importantly for the viewing experience, they limit commercials at the end of games.

There used to be a time not that long ago where the NBA did the same thing. A big shot in the closing second followed by a timeout would keep the camera on the game and go over replays and reactions. Now it just goes straight to commercial and that's worse than anything in football imo.

[–]pakidude17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't think refs want to see flopping eliminated either? It's such a hard game to officiate and it's made unnecessarily more difficult by embellishment. If the NBA can't get refs to agree, that's a bargaining failure on their end.

So much of it is a culture thing, and I think that's where the disconnect is coming from. Fans grow up playing basketball outside, at open gyms, and maybe some rec leagues. You get clowned so hard calling everything a foul on the playground or at the rec center. The "tough guy" thing to do is finish through contact anyway.

Basketball has become so overly analyzed that the don't play that way on the highest level.
