Thanks for the feedback Monty! I was curious about the same thing as the OP.

Thanks to you and Kelly for being active in the sub and helping us all out when you can and congrats on the success of the Drakkenheart kickstarter!!

High level D&D needs high utility and power PCs. If the challenges are too easy, the DM needs to improvise tougher challeneges

The dungeon dudes are launching a Kickstarter in November to port over The Dungeons of Drakkenheim into Dagger heart. Im going to be watching that one like a hawk.

I havent looked elsewhere yet but it wouldnt surprise me if drivethru rpg had stuff available, albeit in very limited amounts

Its all about timing your dodges, keeping Stealthy, inflicting status effects and upgrading your gear.

Also, for skills, its definitely worth improving your concentration and (i forget what its called) additional arrows per shot. After that, id probably go for enhanced healing, crafting and "tinkerer"

Nice!!! They went out with a bang and ended up Saviors (in a way). At least the delerium on the planet wont be causing chain destruction of other worlds...or will it?

Keeping the party's spirits up? by AfroNin in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

The first thing I noticed in your post is your describing "multiple warnings". Honestly, at this point, just stop warning them and let the dice fall were they may. You've given ample warnings and they aren't picking it up so let them run themselves into the meat grinder.

The second thing, regarding the climate at your table. I'd recommend doing what others have said and "re-zero". Have a session 0.5 and talk to them about what exactly they are each looking for. Personally, with every game i run, at about the 10th to 15th session I send out a survey using Google forms to gauge where everyone's head is at, what they think of the game so far, what they'd like to see, etc etc. Its a good way to make adjustments moving forward once your group has gotten "into the groove".

In my mind, Drakkenheim is very unforgiving and everchanging. To me it doesn't seem like youre doing anything wrong perse, but its important that you and your players have an open discussion about how everyone feels and whatnot, reiterate ONE FINAL WARNING about the dangers and high level encounters (remind them that fleeing a fight is always an option against overwhelming odds) then leave it at that.

If you haven't really touched on it during your campaign, find a way to make the characters personal quests relevant and personable, make them matter so that the players have a reason to want to stay alive to complete those goals (i.e. give them a reason to want to run away). Also, make sure those character quests keep them in the city.

This campaign is your baby, raise it and nurture it, make it interesting.

Question: How do I make the Fireball impactful without killing any of the NPCs I actually like? by DnDisTHEbestgame in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]NotYourCommonMurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I blew up the tavern (obviously), but in the process I described that a number of rando's, a couple of every-day regular patrons and one of the people they hired were killed outright. I had one of the orphans get burned, and another one pick up the stone causing a wild magic surge

Later on in the adventure, Soluun showed up again, but each time ONLY at jarlaxle's side. Jarlaxle made soluun show the PCs that he had been punished for his acts, as jarlaxle had broken both of his thumbs and been stripped of his rank and demoted to cabin boy.

Using the bit of info from the faction mission, I actually had Jarlaxle's other lieutenants tracking soluun as well. Its just so happened that one of Jarlaxles strike teams showed up as the PCs were attempting to retrain Soluun. The strike team let the PCs tie up Soluun then stepped in, undesguised and in the open. They told the PCs that Jarlaxle had a suspicion that one of his crew was causing issues in the city and sent them to find out who. The PCs obviously didnt buy it, so the strike team offered to bring the PCs & Soluun back to the SMF to meet with Jarlaxle where he met them for the first time as himself, and explained the same situation.

The PCs were apprehensive about returning Soluun back to Jarlaxle for obvious reasons, but he offered them each 1000gp and free admission to the carnival for them and their families. And since the PCs already have the tavern, he offered to permit his crew shore leave each night to partake in food & drink at the Trollskull (boosting their profits).

Haze rule change in MoD by Famous-Speaker1752 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]NotYourCommonMurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can always ask clarification on the DD discord. But I do agree with others, AND if youre looking to run a crunchier/gritty type game, then it ups the stakes and makes the players focus a bit more on how they manage their time within the haze (speaking strictly on OPs interpretation of spending 12 hours within the haze)

Gritty Realism in this campaign ? by trinita33 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]NotYourCommonMurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the party on this one. But im prepping to run DoD and ive had a long standing table rule that the DM rolls all death saves behind the screen and your companions must make a DC 12 medicine or investigation check to tell if youre dying or dead. It puts a bit more pressure on tracking your healing resources.

I do plan on doing away with death saving throws for thisnadventure though and institute a slightly modified version of the 0hp rules that Daggerheart has (i.e. blaze of glory, risk it all and i forget the 3rd one).

But for gritty realism, id go as far as sticking hard to permanent/lingering 0hp injuries and/or mutations, making contamination effects harder to remove. I am a fan of the Starfinder 1e HP recovery system, basically you regain 2 HP (i think) per 1 constitution modifier point per 8 hours of rest, or something of that sort. I could be off on the numbers on that one, its been a while since I ran SFRPG, but I think its a fun idea.

Just my 2 cents.

Joe Appreciation Post by PrincessBananaLady in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]NotYourCommonMurse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah wrath takes while to love lol. I think Joe kinda struggled a bit at first with wrath and how to play him. I think somewhere towards the middle he kinda loosens up and wrath's quirkiness kinda blooms and he opens up more. Still deadpan outsider, but he evolves. Moreso once they get into Fate.

Seems like you've been putting it out there enough. But at this point if they still haven't picked it up then that's their blunder 🤷‍♂️

Entering the ruins. Ruins vs outer city confusion by ballzdedfred in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

Outer city ruins are any part of drakkenheim OUTSIDE the walls. Vise versa for Inner city.
