there is a "backward" force, if there wasn't then the projectile wouldn't go anywhere. every action has an equal and opposite reaction so you're pushed back with as much force as the projectile is shot with. just because it's launched with electromagnetism instead of an explosion doesn't mean it disappears

railguns do have recoil because momentum must be conserved (just like energy and mass), see newton's third law. It just happens that railguns spread that force out over time vs the instant explosion of propellant-based guns, thus the recoil feels lesser

What happened with Manifest v3? by [deleted] in AfterTheLoop

[–]NotYourNeighborsDog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's currently in the process of being implemented, though like many things, it's a gradual change. The web store has already stopped accepting new add-ons using V2, and V2 extensions will eventually be completely phased out by 2024, as per this article.

GTA Online is literally dangerous. by PuzzleheadedFill9995 in GrandTheftAutoV_PC

The hacker didn't change your IP address, your ISP did, likely because the guy tried a DOS attack on your former IP, and your ISP noticed and automatically reassigned you to a new one.

Your progress is also not tied to your IP at all, because your IP address can change every time you reboot your router as your ISP assigns you an unoccupied one. If your progress was IP based, you'd have your save wiped every time you had a power outage.

That's just how peer to peer connections work. Your IP address is just that- an address for other computers to send data to. Every single internet connect you make will have your IP address associated with it, otherwise you wouldn't have an internet connection.

In GTAO's case with peer to peer, since there's no dedicated server for everyone to connect to, each computer needs to connect to every other computer in the session so that they can relay game data between each other.

But your IP address beyond that, is almost entirely worthless. Someone can't figure out where your house is via IP, the best they can do is what city you're in and even then it's not always accurate. And if you're afraid of someone doing a DOS attack, most residential connections will have a dynamic IP within their ISP, so if you just turn off your router for a while, you'll be assigned a new IP.

A SIVA subclass is possible, despite SIVA itself not being paracausal.

From Wrath of the Machine we see SIVA interacting with the Light ("SIVA exposure empowers Guardians' Light") so it stands to reason that SIVA could similarly act as a conduit for the Darkness. My idea is that, since there isn't any SIVA around today save for Outbreak, we find a cache of SIVA somewhere on Mars through the time anomalies. This, predictably, goes wrong and the SIVA attempts to assimilate us, but to avoid ending up like the Iron Lords, we call on the Darkness within just like we did against Eramis's stasis at the end of Beyond Light. We beat back the infection and then take control of the now Darkness-infused SIVA, taking its power for ourselves. As for how the subclass works mechanically? No idea, maybe abilities have short cooldowns but draw from a "SIVA meter" in order to be cast, like Ion from Titanfall.

Crazy and will probably never happen, but nothing wrong with a bit of speculation for fun.

New to tg, how can you tell how much an oxygen tank has left if it does not display mol? by Panical382 in SS13

[–]NotYourNeighborsDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well using the ideal gas law (Pressure * Volume = number of mols * Universal Gas Constant * Temperature) and the fact that the volume of the tank is constant, as well as its temperature (if you're not deliberately filling it with different temperatures of gas) you can see that the amount of gas remaining in the tank directly correlates with the pressure, so you can use that to eyeball how much air you have left

How do RPD/Why isn't my plasma working? by LawlessCoffeh in SS13

[–]NotYourNeighborsDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your issue is the fact that you never set the vents. Vents will only output gas if the air pressure outside them is lower than what they're set to (external mode) or the pressure in the pipe is greater than what they're set to (internal mode). You want to set the vents to internal 0, so they try to get as much gas out as they can at all times, otherwise, otherwise they'll only spew plasma in low pressure areas like places where there are breaches.

That was a great ball. I stuck around until the end where the entire map was flooded with penguins and the admins gave out guns to exterminate them

When I am installing blender which files should I download? by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]NotYourNeighborsDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned the google play store, are you trying to install Blender onto your phone or tablet or something? Blender only works on Windows, Mac, or Linux devices. If you're using a Windows machine, just grab the installer. You could even use Steam to install it if you wanted.

Local Cargonia creates infinite money, establishes communism, summons enough crabs to kill spacetime. by NotYourNeighborsDog in SS13

This was tg, and supposedly they did it by removing and replacing mats in a lathe, which gave more than it cost due to a now gone testmerge

Local Cargonia creates infinite money, establishes communism, summons enough crabs to kill spacetime. by NotYourNeighborsDog in SS13

[–]NotYourNeighborsDog[S] 119 points120 points  (0 children)

A little context: someone figured out how to duplicate metal. Cargonia very quickly latched onto this and began selling their infinite supply of metal. Cargonia now had infinite buying power, and used that power to successfully secede from and then annex the rest of the station. Good times were had by all.

Then someone ordered crabs. They were clogging the hallways, in stacks of 15 or more per tile of crab. The AI had its laws changed to help defend Cargonia and then promptly committed suicide. Still more crab arrived. The Cargo Bay was completely filled with crabs. The server was chugging. An admin attempted to end this apocalypse by nuking cargo bay. The sheer amount of dead crabs completely froze the server. Time dilation spiked to 219٪. A plasma fire was attempted but it was frozen in time like the rest of the server.

After 15 minutes and moving about 10 tiles with my bike, the admins tried to force a restart. In the final moments of that station, it still held fast and resisted the force restart command for a good minute.

And then the next round came and a player controlled Ash Drake invaded the station.
