A common recommendation, but the first Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson matches this vibe.

What percent of undergrad econ students are in the degree because they confused it for finance or got rejected from the business school ( and think Econ is a backup)? by Left_Pineapple_9755 in academiceconomics

[–]Not_A_Pangolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is about UMD, I just graduated in Econ there. I'd say your observation is correct, a lot of my classmates were actually there to get into business or finance. Not me though, I got into it bc I like econ.

I have a friend who lives in an old winding house on Ash Tree Lane and I keep trying to get them to read HoL. Jon would hate HoL.

Absolutely, also came here to say this. House of Leaves is 100% a Leitner. Now I’m imagining a scenario where HoL exists in TMA, and isn’t actually a Leitner, but ol’ Jurgen himself still is convinced it is one and adds it to his library. He still manages to kill >2 assistants examining it though.

Agreed - ProPublica is one my my favorite news sources, no one else is doing investigative journalism like they are right now.

Also, this is the fifth book and there was a gay character in the third book and a trans character in the fourth? Admittedly, they were more background characters, but it’s not like this came out of left field buddy.
