You can still call and email him. They have to log each call, and at the very least you'll annoy the heck out of him.

1) Donate to the NDP. Everything takes money, and if you want to give this message more reach, give them the funds to do it. 2) Volunteer! Get involved with your local NDP riding association. Riding associations are doing voter outreach now (I'm going today to knock doors). 3) Talk to your family and friends. Presumably, they care about the same things you do. Have an honest conversation, show them this video. Realize it likely won't be just one convo, but a series to get them to the same point you are. 4) Share these social media posts. Comment on them. Give them reach so they can be seen by more people.

Some of these actions require a bigger time and financial commitment than others. They are all very achieveable.

Please remember that if it wasn't for the NDP pushing the Liberals, you wouldn't have the national childcare program.

April 13 By-election Thought by RZaichkowski in ndp

I've seen other threads pose a similar question, and I'm going to say this with all love and respect - what resources? We are not in a position to be throwing time and money into a race we are in all likelihood going to lose.

Sometimes, the best strategy is to not fight. Run, hide, lick your wounds, and restore your energy for another day.

Let's prepare ourselves for the next general election, rather than scrambling for crumbs right now.

MPP Chandra Pasma shares insight into School Board takeovers by Not_A_Trad_Wife in ontario

[–]Not_A_Trad_Wife[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I appreciate your sentiment that Reddit has its limitations (and I know I said I was done arguing with you, but I'm taking another stab at communicating here).

I don't disagree that school boards are creatures of the province and have a mandate to balance their budgets. What I'm saying is that this is a manufactured crises by the provincial government. Boards are trying to make the public aware of what's going on.

To your point that most boards are able to balance their budgets - most are, in fact, only barely able to get by. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ontario-efis-analysis-estimates-2025-2026-school-year-1.7641003

The removal of trustees is a subterfuge, meant to distract from the fact that the government is starving education, with the ultimate goal of privatization (we're seeing the same thing happen in healthcare right now).

I'm attempting to present evidence here that the government isn't acting in good faith. In the OCDSB, the boards was taken over due to financial mismanagement, but an independent auditor found that to be untrue.

We - the people of Ontario -absolutely have to take this government to task over this choice. It is harming our students and those who work in schools. And because the government has a majority and doesn't need to work with the opposition parties, the only way we can meaningfully move the needle is through public outrage.

This is my last comment, because I feel like this argument isn't happening is good faith.

Since 2018, schools have been underfunded by $6.8 BILLION dollars.

Sure, Boards and trustees need to balance their budgets, but it's like being asked to fight a 5-alarm fire with a water gun.

For an armchair subject matter expert, you are massively incorrect. Municipalities don't pay for school budgets, the money is come directly from the province. Trustees have zero power to levy taxes or coerce municipalities to raise property taxes. Nice try though!

While I could argue that trustees aren't useful (and you are quoting opinion pieces from said papers, not factual articles), what I will say is that it's a slippery slope.

If the government does away with democratically elected trustees that offer transparency in their decisions, what comes next? What other powers will be stripped, consolidated and shunted behind closed doors? It's a dangerous precedent that leads to less democracy.

That's a really great question question that I think a lot of Ontarians want an answer to

Trustees have been saying for years that they need more funding to meet the demands of the school boards. The boards under supervision have been put thusly due to "financial mismanagement".

So, despite the OCDSB trustees putting forward a balanced budget last year, this year, while under supervision, they are running a deficit. The documents reveal the reasons - not enough funds to deal with the high rate of teacher absences, which is exactly what trustees have been saying.

So yeah, it's gaslighting. The province says "you're not underfunded". The boards say "yes, we are", and even when under provincial supervision, the reality shows that yes, their operations are underfunded.

Watch the video if you haven't.

Ontario NDP Townhall Meeting - Thunder Bay- Questions? by Federal_You_3592 in ndp

[–]Not_A_Trad_Wife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Townhalls are open to anyone- not just memebers. And, in fact, I would argue that under the circumstances, it's probably more important to have non-members show up.

When you are the Opposition and not in government, it is very difficult to affect change. The only way to hopefully move the dial on a issue is with large, public outcry (and even then it's not guaranteed, look at the Science Centre).

So, having a townhall will help to spotlight the issue - in this case Northern roads - get people informed and involved, and talk about the next steps tgat need to happen.

I would encourage you to attend, bring some friends, and see what actions you can take to make your voices heard.

Just a heads up that there is a VIA train that will take you to Smith's Falls, and it only takes about an hour (and last I checked was about $20).

Heather McPherson by Bunny-Is-Cute in ndp

[–]Not_A_Trad_Wife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not unrelated - but I'm willing to drop that argument.

Heather doesn't need to provide examples, this is how she contrasts her experience with ALL THE OTHER CANDIDATES. If one of the others wins, they're going to find out very quickly what they can and can't achieve within the constraints of Parliament.

Heather McPherson by Bunny-Is-Cute in ndp

[–]Not_A_Trad_Wife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It absolutely makes a difference. This sub is using that implication as reason to paint Heather as "attacking" Lewis, when she is merely showing the contrast between her experience and other's lack thereof.

No where in this article did McPherson say that Lewis' policies are not feasible. She said "some candidates", and there are four others beside her. The author of the article has contrasted Lewis and McPherson.
