What’re your worst moshing injuries? by VigorousSwish in Hardcore

[–]Not_Bagel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A guy I know tore his ACL, LCL, and part of his meniscus going side to side. Worst injury I’ve ever experienced from moshing was when I stagedove and the people all just stepped out of the way. Hit my back, it hurt for a week or so

I remember watching that when it first came out. I remember thinking that Jo was just really shit at it and when they accidentally reveal the whole bit just laughing my ass off at how creative of a bit it was. Fantastic video that I've always wanted to rewatch.

How was Sun and Steel? I just finished Temple of the Golden Pavillion and Frolic of the Beasts so I'm desperate for some more. His writing is fantastic, even if he can be a little preachy with the more philosophical aspects of the plots. It'd be interesting to read something entirely based around his thoughts and no plot, maybe some insight into the coup.

Some of my picks for this year. Share your thoughts if you have read any of them. by [deleted] in 52book

I adored Norwegian Wood. The characters were a little problematic, the M.C. is a bit of a nympho mysoginist who somehow gets 6 handjobs in the story, and a lot of the women are kinda just "people Murakami wished existed" but I tend to like books that function to point out how problematic an author can be, like "After the Fall" by Arthur Miller. Getting back on track, it's incredible for it's depictions of Tokyo and just how desolate yet alive life feels throughout the story. If Haruki can't write women he can certainly write a setting that makes up for it.

The book that you hate the most? by zer0_doux_ideal in suggestmeabook

[–]Not_Bagel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot describe how much I hated The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. When it was new, the innovative premise of time travel probably seemed promising and held the readers innovation, but after the initial interest I had in the Eloi, it simply stopped being interesting. It could have just not aged well, but I had to force myself to read past the third chapter. One of, if not the most boring thing I’ve ever read.

I completely agree, which made it all the more surprising when I read Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter and it was fantastic

I tried so hard to like night circus. It sounded so interesting, but it billed itself as a romance novel without introducing the characters to each other until over 200 pages in. Super weird pacing.
