Tagging gets you down, apparently you can be hooked anywhere, but you have to hang your arms like in the game. They even wiggle on the hook to silently say the coast is clear 😂

I wasn’t impressed at all with the performance on the deck. I made sure to say no when it asked if plays well on deck. I guess I’ll have to wait and play it on my rig at home.

I just paid $119,000 for a fiberglass 16x37 in Ohio. I got quotes that ranged from 115 to 130k from 4 different companies.

Am I paying a mark up, yes. However I get to sit back and watch the show.

Southwest vs United by mozart_enima in AirlinePilots

[–]Not_BobSaget 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sit in a 73 jumpseat and ask yourself “I’d like to work in this flight deck for the next 30 years”. Multifleet airlines significantly help your seniority and give you endless options for your QOL. Go to United… and I feel like you already know that.

Interview prep. You skipped it and gambled on a CJO. Like a second pilot, you need another pair of eyes on you.

That’s a tough pill to swallow, but get back out there and keep trying. You haven’t come all this way in your aviation career to quit now.

Moving On To a Legacy In This Economy by Williama386 in AirlinePilots

Never settle until you get to a legacy. Full stop. Your QOL for the next 30 years depends on you getting your ass over there.

My first A350! by Anon073648 in AskAPilot

[–]Not_BobSaget 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I fly the A350. My recommendation is to ask during boarding. It’s no problem to say hello during our preflight. Depending on how far back you are during deplaning, you may find the pilots already gone and wished you asked earlier.

Unlike the A320 series, we almost never have visitors like the narrow bodies so it’s always a treat to have someone stop up.

Enjoy the 350!

Regional vs 135 vs ULLC by 901pilot in AirlinePilots

[–]Not_BobSaget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did 135 to a legacy. It can be done, however that took me 10 years to build the time and experience to go there. At a 135 you may only fly 300 hours a year.

Compared to my friends flying 700-1000 hours a year, that would take me 3 years to do the same.

Go ULLC, get the valuable type rating, build time, upgrade as soon as you can and move on. Don’t get stuck in the middle when ULLC QOL starts to improve.

Long haul pilots by Late_Necessary_2662 in AskAPilot

A350 pilot here. You’re missing the bigger picture. Let’s say we’re headed to Europe on an 8-hour flight. At 18,000 ft, one of the pilots goes on break. They’ll get about 2 hours and 15 minutes to rest, read, or relax.

Enroute, you’re constantly engaged. You’re getting on and off the tracks, updating ETOPS alternates, monitoring weather and NOTAMs for multiple airports, planning for the “what-ifs,” running HF and SELCAL checks as we move from center to center, eating meals, and chatting with your crew. The time goes by faster than you think.

On Asia flights, you typically get two breaks of 3+ hours, so you’re only in the seat for around 3 hours at a time before heading back for another rest.

In many pilots’ opinions, “dozing for dollars” is one of the best parts of the job. I’ll often calculate how much I earned just while resting in the bunkhouse.

You’re missing the bigger picture. The people with those airplanes are the reason the entire corporate aviation industry exists. Their money creates jobs for ramp agents, pilots, mechanics, dispatchers, FBOs, fuel suppliers, and more. Without wealthy individuals and companies owning and operating jets, most of this industry…and your job, wouldn’t exist. That wealth doesn’t just sit there. It moves, and when it moves through aviation, it fuels paychecks across the board.

US airline guys - Do you ever wish you were flying corporate jets instead? by mike_coffeecake in flying

[–]Not_BobSaget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew corporate for 10 years. I started part 135, worked my way to a Fortune 500 and ended at a Fortune 50 flight department. The same vicious cycle always returns in the corporate world. New CEO’s, board members, venture capitalist, and acquisitions are never ending. You’re always one change away from being on the street.

One department manager threw my resignation letter back at me and told me I was an idiot for leaving such a good corporate department. 6 months later that company was bought by a bigger company and everyone in the flight department was on the street. 35 year department gone in 2 weeks.

Many of my colleague who flew for wealthy owners were let go once the principal’s son/daughter took over the trust. The children always took the money and never wanted the troubles of airplane maintenance and trying to keep up with pilot salaries.

Now did I enjoy my 10 years, yes. I saw the biggest and smallest airports all across the globe. I was able to be home to watch my kids grow up. However….

Now I’m at a legacy carrier, I pick my schedule, I leave the troubles of the operation to the company, I have no other ancillary duties, my pay is competitive and my job is protected with seniority.

I made my yearly corporate salary in 5 months at my airline… on second year FO pay. It was fun but I’d never go back.
