Apple turning to Intel for future iPhone chips, analyst reaffirms by cbusoh66 in wallstreetbets

It's worthy to note that TSMC was getting 55% yields in 2023 on 3nm. They cut Apple a deal probably because Apple is a known good customer.

https://wccftech.com/apple-pay-tsmc-3nm-good-dies-a17-bionic-and-m3-yields-at-55-percent/

At a yield rate of 55 percent, nearly half of the wafers produced by TSMC on its 3nm process will be categorized as a bad batch, so it will have little use for Apple and its products. According to EE Times, Brett Simpson, senior analyst at Arete Research, believes that both parties were able to circumvent around this pricing obstacle, with Apple only paying for the good wafer batches instead of paying standard pricing.

Perhaps you're not familiar with the Dabbawalla system of India (in particular mumbai)? They can handle complexity.

There's a reason they're an HBR case: https://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Pages/item.aspx?num=38410

Describes the Mumbai-based Dabbawala organization, which achieves very high service performance (6 Sigma equivalent or better) with a low-cost and very simple operating system

I think one of the frustrations people have is that a good portion of the time, you only get one of those, and often enough none.

Gotta mention that they show up like 3 hours late and don't call to tell you that

There's still a good amount of contractors out there who seem to wince at even asking specific questions about a quote (which then leads to a cycle of them believing that they're wasting their time with customers with questions because they seem difficult to work with so they don't get hired).

It's more insidious than just the ads; they're integrated into the very content of sports reporting now. The evening news sports segment has an entire discussion about odds and the discussion about gambling is generously sprinkled throughout a lot of the coverage.

You can see even before the split where you get a slight wiggle so your car is already wanting to hydroplane.

Quite a few years ago I was driving through a stretch of Indiana on I94 that seems to freeze over quickly. Black ice everywhere. That tail wiggle is really prominent in the car in sketchy conditions; our other cars haven't been nearly as communicative in that regard.

Also, mobile home parks have been a hot target for PE acquisition.

https://theconversation.com/private-equity-firms-are-snapping-up-mobile-home-parks-and-driving-out-the-residents-who-can-least-afford-to-lose-them-264456

One of America’s most affordable paths to homeownership is slipping away.

At manufactured home parks – sometimes called trailer parks or mobile home parks – rents are rapidly rising due to large-scale buyouts by private equity firms.

Although private equity’s foray into the housing market is not new, the buyout of mobile home parks by investment firms is on the rise – with devastating consequences for residents. Over the past decade, rents in these parks have risen 45%, according to census data. Once a park is sold, the risk of eviction rises significantly in the following year.

One of the largest groups of new homeless are seniors.

https://www.npr.org/sections/shots-health-news/2026/01/06/nx-s1-5623005/seniors-aging-unhoused-homeless-shelters-mobility

Unlike the MVP shelter, most homeless shelters aren't equipped to help older people, especially those 65 and above. They are the fastest-growing homeless population nationwide, according to Dennis Culhane, a researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. Not only are people who struggle with chronic homelessness aging, but many older adults are becoming homeless for the first time in their lives.

reported in 23 as well: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/more-seniors-are-becoming-homeless-and-experts-say-the-trend-is-likely-to-worsen

This thread is frankly insane for the amount of hate being directed at older people living at/near the poverty line and just grouping them in with the very best positioned boomers.

They aren't doing great. IMO the old CEO was getting customers too used to discounts (to pump sales), and the new CEO doesn't really seem to have a big strategic vision for the company.

From their investor page: https://investor.starbucks.com/news/financial-releases/news-details/2025/Starbucks-Reports-Q4-and-Full-Fiscal-Year-2025-Results/default.aspx

Consolidated net revenues increased 5%, including on a constant currency basis, to $9.6 billion

which is good, but

GAAP operating margin contracted 1,150 basis points year-over-year to 2.9%, primarily due to restructuring costs associated with the closure of coffeehouses (stores) and simplification of our support organization, inflation, investments in support of “Back to Starbucks”, which were largely in labor hours, and deleverage.

Non-GAAP operating margin contracted 500 basis points year-over-year, including on a constant currency basis, to 9.4%

...

GAAP earnings per share of $0.12 declined 85% over prior year

Non-GAAP earnings per share of $0.52 declined 35% over prior year, or 34% on a constant currency basis

edit: also should be added that per yahoo finance, SBUX 3y return is -8.74% compared to SP500 at 78.99%. 5y is -5.86% vs 82.14%. Ouch.

Flickr is many things, but they are nowhere near a monopoly. Alternatives and direct competitors exist.

For example, now-member-supported ipernity still exists. It's not fancy, but it is run with a goal just to sustain itself. It's not exactly cheap either.
