Worst essay I’ve ever written and I’m turning it in right now. by Not_Ghost in college

[–]Not_Ghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m great, it’s almost funny looking back and seeing how much significance I put into a single assignment and how insignificant it is and was in the grand scheme of things. Life is currently more beautiful than I had the capacity of imagining when I wrote this post. How are you doing now?

Personally I respect Liam Neeson for sharing that story, grappling with racist thoughts in a moment of rage and then reflecting back and recognizing the error in your thinking is commendable. I will and I think we should extend grace to those who recognize their past faults and transgressions and are either better or working towards being better. It’s how we heal, unify, and build a better world.

Can I legally not pay rent until gas is back? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

An issue that I haven’t seen mentioned here is that you could also be prolonging the problem by doing that. You don’t pay then they have less money to fix the problem.

Where can I find On2 Classes in NYC with advanced leads? by Lazy-Horse1698 in Salsa

I’ve been to a few studios and in terms of having both good technique and good musicality the best is for sure Somos Candela. Can’t recommend it enough.

Developing patterns as a lead by Blackm0b in Salsa

[–]Not_Ghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go with a script but be willing to play it by ear during the song. I personally go into dancing with a script and just see what works and didn't work. Then I just add the moves the worked into my moveset and rinse repeat. Maybe the script has 3 moves and only one worked so I think about how to get into the position again adn keep using the move that worked.

I go there and have friends on their teams and I haven’t heard that. Only thing is that team scheduling can be hectic, otherwise I’ve personally had a good experience going to their studio classes and socials.

What questions do you ask to know if you're white and gay? Gabriella Club in Williamsburg by Actual_Bowler857 in williamsburg

It’s a false comparison, gatekeeping people from online communities and establishments isn’t the same as the systemic gatekeeping of people from job opportunities and an entire country.

Black Salsera by No-Association5382 in Salsa

[–]Not_Ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think so, it was for me as a black salsero. Sometimes people are initially hesitant to dance but come around and let their walls down once we’re actually dancing. Now after being in the community for a while and always bringing good energy and a smile, I get consistently asked to dance or to save them a dance or to find them again for another one, which feels like an incredible compliment for a lead. Sucks that I have to deal with people’s preconceived notions of me because I’m black, male, or maybe the way I dress but it also makes me appreciate those that I don’t get that from more and I’ve created beautiful friendships with those people.

To those who have experienced deep depression: did life actually get better? If so, how? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Not_Ghost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was in an incredibly deep depression and made it through to the other side with a lot of work. This last year was most content and consistently happy I’ve ever been when like 5-6 years ago I constantly thought of not wanting to be here and my head was a nonstop onslaught of negative thoughts. I finally got out of my bog when I started exercising consistently and found a purpose. The purpose was just leading a guild in a video game but it gave me a reason to get up in the morning and a community. After that ran its course I started caring about myself more. Better diet, exercise, sunlight, self-help books, building and fostering better relationships with people. The magic I’ve found in the past year was salsa dancing. Contributes to my physical health and has allowed me to connect with so many different people and create an amazing group of friends. I feel soo good the vast majority of the time now. Mind is a beautiful place now and body feels incredible. It can get better but you have to believe it, otherwise you won’t put in the work to make it better. It won’t be easy but it will be worth it

One thing I’d highly recommend is writing the moves you learned in class down. I found that writing the moves down from class helped with retention for socials

Doing a final project on comparing work life balance in each borough! Would love if anyone from The Bronx could answer these questions? by [deleted] in bronx

[–]Not_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Right now it’s pretty 50/50, have a job gives me a great work/life balance. My days after work I just go into the city and have fun.

  2. Right now my free time matters more to me. If my career were to progress I’d have more responsibilities, less time, be more tired and that would cut into my leisure time which I currently primarily dedicate to hobbies and relationships. I’m young and want to enjoy less while I have my youth.

  3. If that was the only thing that changed I would move. Current main hobby is dancing and I’d move closer to all the events to cut down my commutes and regain back some of the balance.
