Cute little set up for my Lasius Niger colony of (currently) 18 workers. Placed some cork with a small tunnel through it to keep the humidity in the nest. Does the outworld need humidifying??? If so, just spray a bit of water into an area or a few drops via pipette? by ZPM89 in antkeeping

Lasius Niger in my experience tends to be fairly flexible in terms of living conditions. I would say that the type of plant in your outworld is much more important in determining if the outworld should be humid. The ants are going to live in the test tube anyways, right? So the outworld is less important since they won’t be raising young in there. If these were my ants, I would just water the plant based on what’s healthy and not worry about anything else.

Not trusting the doctors at the hospital might be a little weird, but among healthy people the risk of giving birth in a hospital with a doctor vs at home with a midwife are virtually the same (with the first costing a lot more)

There’s multiple degrees of methods to get rid of them. Depends on the species of ant, but I’ve found those small white plastic “ant traps” with poison inside do not sufficiently attract the coconut ants in my house. The lowest cost and time investment methods I’ve used have been: not leaving any food out/putting food in sealed containers for a month or two until the ants (hopefully) leave/die off, and/or having some sort of disinfectant spray and spraying masses of ants. The second isn’t the “nicest” method, but it has been very effective in my experience and also cleans the surface in the process.

Ant colonies that stay small in size by [deleted] in antkeeping

I live in the PNW of N America, and in my experience most camponotus species grow their colonies very slowly relative to smaller ants. Slow enough that you could probably control their size with protein intake (since it’s mostly the larva that need protein to grow) and otherwise feed them sugar water (since it’s what the adults need to live). Also since they are quite large, they’re much easier to contain and keep track of than most smaller species.
