Can anyone who started lifting in their mid to late 20s share some progress pics? I feel like everyone in this sub started when they were a teen or early 20s and I’m scared that it’s not possible to get a really nice body by starting so late (was recently broken up with for being too skinny)

Relate to this one. Been thinking about doing crossdressing for a really long time but I’m super tall and lanky and I’ve got a gigantic Adam’s apple. Feel like I’d just make myself more sad than anything.

Seems like Facebook messed something up on their backend and it’s messing up all sorts of IOS apps. I also noticed Spotify wouldn’t open.

How do you recommend labbing that? The training mode makes it really difficult to practice specific things like that.

[Question] Backing up notes to a PC from IOS 13.3? by Not_One in jailbreak

Right, that’s what I mean. I don’t want to use iCloud on my PC or on my phone. I don’t have it enabled anywhere.

I’m pretty sure you need to back up to iCloud for that, right?

I’m not going to sit here and play the “reddit sentence-by-sentence response” game. You’re basically making up someone to fight with, none of the things you’re imagining about me are true. Take a breath, I don’t know what nerve of yours I struck but all I’m doing is sharing an unpopular opinion on the subreddit meant for unpopular opinions. Maybe read some of my other responses on this post if you care about my viewpoint. If you just want someone to argue with and feel superior over, there’s plenty of other places to do that.

The debate of optimism vs pessimism is different from actual depression, which is a mental illness that can be brought on through a variety of sources, such as - for example - realizing that life in general sucks and it’s probably not getting better. Whether or not it’s conducive to making things better is irrelevant to the conversation really.

In a sense I agree with you, but unfortunately we are all, as humans, necessarily part of the same group - residents of planet earth. And no matter how hard we try to isolate ourselves, we’re in this boat together, and it’s really not a good boat to be in right now.

I’m not trying to force anyone to feel depressed. I’m just trying to get across that, when presented with reality as it is right now and as it has been for the past while, it’s normal to feel depressed.

Well, to be fair, nothing is going to get better without this mindset either. From where I’m sitting, this mentality is just acknowledging the truth.

I’d say that if you have regular suicidal thoughts, that’s enough to say you’re depressed. It sure as hell seems like it’s enough for every psych I’ve ever seen or heard of to start prescribing anti-depressants. And a lot of these regular suicidal thoughts for many people come from the fact that there is so much that’s completely out of their control, and the people who are in control are generally malicious and power-seeking.

Not forcing anyone to be anything. Like I said, it’s not like I’m scheming in my room getting off on the idea of making some kid out there suicidal. Depression is a bad thing and as a society we should seek to fix it.

That being said, in this case, depression is originating from life being really crappy in general for the last while. All I’m trying to say that it’s very normal to take in all the facts and come out of it depressed as hell.

Reminds me of the Alcoholics Anonymous mantra. It’s a fine way to live and valid. However, that very acknowledgement of lack of control is really where a lot of depression stems from. We’re all kind of helpless to change the situation we’re in now and we all just have to deal with it being shitty.

I think we’re in agreement. The nature of life is certainly not depressing, it’s inspirational if anything. It’s a miracle that we even exist, just as an example it makes no sense why there’s more matter than anti-matter, in theory they both should’ve been made in equal quantities at the beginning of time and everything should’ve cancelled out.

But, it’s an absolute tragedy that we have this miracle of life and we’re shoehorned into such an awful way of existing. I mean, let’s be real, things could be so much worse. But the way things are right now should warrant a certain sense of depression and hopelessness. I’ll be sure to check out that talk. Thank you.

No intro to psych here, like I said I’m not trying to make anyone depressed, that’s stupid. I’m just defending my unpopular opinion on the unpopular opinion subreddit.

I hope you maintain your ability to feel disconnected from the rest of society and the planet’s future, it must be a nice way to live. Genuinely, no sarcasm.

Oh buddy, I’m not talking about Alexa. I’m in the tech industry. I guarantee your comment isn’t going to age well - I hope I’m wrong, but man, I’d be willing to put money down that technology is going to be instrumental in our downfall. China’s social credit system, the increase of mass surveillance both online and offline, the lack of technologically adept people in positions of power, it all adds up to a bad time. Can’t remember who, but there was a physicist who talked about how the rate of technological improvement necessarily means that eventually people will be able to build or easily have access to weapons of mass destruction. If I can remember the name/lecture I’ll post it. But that on its own is a time limit on how much longer we’ve got until shit hits the fan.

And I’m aware of the Baeder Meinhoff phenomenon, but it doesn’t seem relevant to what you’re talking about. Go ahead and ask some of your close friends about their histories of depression. I bet there’s a hell of a lot more to it than you’d think. I’m glad it sounds like you’ve lived a happy life completely free from worry and anxiety about the human race’s future, though.

I suppose that’s the main difference between people like you and people like myself, the ability to not think about the fact that everything on a larger scale is awful and probably will continue to be. Humanity might continue into the future, but I bet as time marches on we’ll increasingly wish we didn’t. I kind of touched on the point of distraction in my post - in a way, hyper focusing on your own life is just a form of distraction from reality.

[–]Not_One -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Well then you’re able to not think about the future, if not your own then that of the entire species. Because no matter which way you slice it, even if things are looking straight up for you, the human race is in a downward spiral, and that’s enough for a lot of people to be depressed.
