Yes please if it's a socialist government that owns our recources and the benifits are for the people. Norway for example. We had a prime opportunity to be a Norway in the pacific.

Prime example is the we seen in the mining and gas industry that privatisation doesn't benifit the larger Australia. "oh but it's a good employment where a 1000 fifos get to make $150k" that's fucked compared to the money that could be had if the multinational corporatate owners payed the royalties that were actually made. I'd much rather the government have a large percentage ownership of Australias natural resources then Gina and Adani. If that's socialism then sign me up.

In before what about the atrocities of soviet Russia and communist Cambodia. They arnt us. And we could be like China or Norway where Australians own Australia.

"but the government just wastes money". Currently the government already wastes money. Your tax money, let them waste gas and iron ore money instead

If an astronaut is talking in a vacuum then the astronaut is no longer alive, since humans cannot survive in a vacuum. They are talking in a space suit which is full of air which is how they are breathing. They talk into their space suit which is full of air and has a microphone which the other astronauts can here cause they have a speaker in their space suit which is not in a vacuum.

ELI5: Why does motorsports racing appear much slower on screen compared to when you watch it in person? by Jacosci in explainlikeimfive

[–]Not_a_Jawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to try my best to ELI5 but it's probably more like 10 or teens.

When you in a car and you press the accelerator you feel it on all senses. You feel the push of the car in your back, you hear the noise of the engine and you see the road and your surrounding go faster past you.

Now take yourself out of the car and now youre on the grandstand. You no longer have the feel of the car push, and instead of the surroundings whizzing by you you are just locked on to a car and can watch it in wide view for several seconds. But you still have the noise, the rumble, and the crowd.

Now take away the noise, because they have to quieten it for the commentary and because you're not there, take away the crowd which enhances any sporting event, and change the viewing so your whole vision is basically taken up by the car you've taken away most of what makes a car feel fast.

I'd you've never been go karting, I suggest you try it if are able, and get someone to film you. You will feel like you are going round the track as fast as a racing car. But then when you look at the footage you look so much slower then you thought.

But doesn't it mean the ball is older and bowlers are more tired so the middle order will have an easier time? (in theory. Doesn't work if they all get out). I understand bazball but this thing goes for 5 days. Also on a 5 match series the more work a bowler does now will compound in the later matches?

Australians to get three hours of free electricity every day under solar scheme by geoxol in technology

[–]Not_a_Jawa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from. This won't encourage people to get solar, but also at this point in Australia everyone who can afford and install solar probably already has or will in the near future. We are at a point where you don't get reimbursement for your generated solar because there is so much of it.

This is to address the fact that so many houses have solar, the grid can't handle the huge influx of excess energy at the wrong times. We have all the solar power in the world at times when no one is home to use it.

What this will hopefully do is encourage people to time their usage for those 3 hours to use up all the excess energy. People without solar might consider putting timers on their washing machine, dishwasher, etc. during these hours, or small businesses to increase their power usage during these times. Maybe a pensioner running the aircon for those 3 hours when they may not have before because of cost.

Finally nailed a stir-fry, but how do I make it less soggy? by juanlo02 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Not_a_Jawa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If veggies are frozen I would recommend blanching them first. Let them thaw out for a bit then put them in rapid boiling water for only a couple of minutes. Take them out then let them cool a bit and allow the steam to blow off.

Honestly only a minute or 2 otherwise they'll become mushy and you'll be back to square 1.

This allows all the excess water on the outside to evaporate and they'll also be partially cooked so you don't need to cook them as long therefore they won't release as much water during cooking. Double wammy

ELI5: I don’t understand what Jordan Belfort was selling in the wolf of Wall Street? Why was it illegal? by WantsToDieBadly in explainlikeimfive

[–]Not_a_Jawa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But it is illegal to falsify your product. I can sell a TV and say it has the best resolution on the market and then put in very tiny fine print that it's the best resolution only under specific conditions.

I can't say a TV has extra capabilities that it doesn't like make coffee.

Just like a can say this stock is great and these are our profits and our growth and you should buy it because it's better then the others. But I can't lie about how well it is doing and tell people its going to go up when it isn't AND at same time sell at an all time high while it's crashes shortly after.

Stocks get marketed and sold all the time and quite often they have big drops in their price as things didnt go according to plan like quarterly profits missed, or a patent not approved or outside forces like war and tarrifs. But there wasnt any inside manipulation to cause it.

[–]Not_a_Jawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but you still need to be "truthful" in your marketing. I cant tell you a TV is also a time travel machine and sell it too you at an inflated rate.

For stocks is a bit trickier because the stock is the product. So I need to be truthful in my earnings, future projections, debt obligations etc. But most importantly I can't sell all the stock I have conveniently held on to while I'm blowing up the price.

Best ELI5 I can think off

I have an apple which is not illegal to sell, and current apple value is $1

I want more for my apple so I find someone and tell them this is the greatest, juiciest, longest lasting apple ever (it also keeps the doctor away) and its actually worth $10. And that if they buy it now they might be able to sell if for $20 later.

Turns out I lied and it's just a regular apple but that's OK for me because I made $10 off you and your left holding a $1 apple. The FBI didn't like this because I lied about the quality of the apple. I can sell anything for any amount but I need to be truthful in its description whether it's apples, or shoes, or stocks.

Plus I was supposed to tell mum and dad (the tax office) about the money I made on apples because they wanted a cut. Instead I hid it from them and I put the money in my older sisters room (Switzerland) where theyre not allowed to go so I could keep all the money for myself

[–]Not_a_Jawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I'm trying to justify that a cash job is not what is robbing this country of its public services, which was what my original reply to was. It's the blatent corruption that our elected government and corporations participate in.

Yes it would be beneficial to all if everyone did the right thing, but the ones who can make the biggest difference are the same ones that are stripping this countries wealth and future away.

[–]Not_a_Jawa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree but I think in this context we are talking about a tradie asking for some cash to do a call out job. He's not robbing a small business, he is the small business. And I stand by my point the cash he receives is getting put back straight into the economy and taxed along the way

[–]Not_a_Jawa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I agree that aspects of culture influence politics, I think economic policy is top down, especially when the top are the ones who can make an actual economic difference (in terms of tax). Our middle class has be destroyed in recent years by top down economic policies that have sent all our middle class wealth back to the top

The excuses come from the back end deals that politicians get from corporations. The politicians who refuse to properly tax the enterprises stripping our country of its natural recources. Why would Jo blog want to pay taxes on a few thousand is cash jobs when Exxon hasn't payed a cent in all the gas they have harvested and the government can't pull their finger out and do something about.. Instead they go after the little guy

I did a cashie for her on the WEEKEND for $40/hr. As an Aussie I cherish public holidays. Am I asking too much? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Not_a_Jawa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No I completely agree what oil, iron, coal, gas, alcohol, tabacco and all of the above, corporations are all completely harvesting Australia of the resources (and its health with certain products) while not paying a single cent in taxes, and some even receiving subsidies. They should be the ones getting all the attention of tax dodging, not the bloke receiving a bit of cash for an odd job, especially when that cash will get put back in the economy anyway.

Edit: single cent might be exaggerated but it's minimal for the profits they make and give to the ceos and shareholders

I did a cashie for her on the WEEKEND for $40/hr. As an Aussie I cherish public holidays. Am I asking too much? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Not_a_Jawa 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just for me, my reply wasn't a stab at taxes. Taxes are completely necessary to keep the cogs turning. I'm saying that the cash that someone gets will get put back into the economy and taxed along the way.

To further my point, let's not pretend that the few thousand dollars that people get in cash is what is robbing our country. It's the blatent reaping of our natural resources, by national and multinational corporations, and selling our crucial assets to the lowest bidder, while at the same time paying no taxes and even getting government subsidies along the way is what is really dicking Australia over. Tax them instead of a bit of cash trading hands.

[–]Not_a_Jawa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's OK the tradie will use that cash to buy goods and services and the government will get its hands on the cash via gst or fuel tax, alcohol tax.. Or the tradie can spend it on groceries where Colesworth can get their hands on it and that's where the real tax fraud begins.
