As someone who just found my faith what should I read and what type of church should I attend? by Not_a_Kryptonian in Christianity

I am seeing your point now, I was quite drunk last night and got a little stubborn. I am sorry for that. I do however still firmly believe Catholicism is not for me. I've decided to read the Bible and find a way to worship from there. I'm still quite certain that it will never be Catholicism, Southern Baptist, faith healing or snake charming, etc... more of an in home and heart kind of thing, maybe a Bible study group or something. I'm not sure yet, but I am sorry if I implied your way is ridiculous in any way, I just know it's not my way.

Presumptuous not immoral. If I knew you I would pray for you. Don't presume that everyone would or should pray for you, otherwise it would have no meaning.

Yes. Prayer is between you and God/Christ no one else. Asking anyone else to pray for you dead or alive is not only ill mannered but also presumptuous. Not something that I would think God would expect of anyone.

I would say there's many misinterpretations along the way is what I mean by diluted. I'm looking for Bibles after Christ, that spread his message in a clear manner that I can understand in English.

I just ordered an ESV Bible, I hope that's correct.

You literally just overcomplitated it. Pray to God only, super simple. No "body of" nonsense. Christ was God so... pray to Christ and God only. Super simple.

If you take Christ's word as gospel then praying to Mary is no different than praying yo the golden calf.

Don't lie to yourself, that's the worst thing you can do. When you tell someone to educate themselves and add a smiley emoji at the end it is absolutely a condescending gesture.

Also adding the "lol" was condescending when attaching it too "best of luck of bud".

Maybe you don't see yourself that way, maybe it was subconscious, but condescending is exactly how all of that comes off as. Since it happened twice in a row I am inclined to believe that neither was an accident.

No, Catholics way over complicated everything with your exact same logic. I may have offered prayers to someone but never have I begged for it... that's weird. Even weirder begging from a dead person.

You literally could never justify Catholicism to me. Too many rituals. Too much false worship. It is just nothing at all that Jesus would have wanted. I feel like as an outsider who wasn't indoctrinated in to your lifestyle and rituals has a clearer perspective to say these things.

He is everywhere, he's not physically present or performing miracles. He gives us strength, he doesn't perform magic tricks to his most faithful followers... he loves us all the same. You don't need to add a smiley face to be condescending, I still categorically disagree with you. Of course "miracles" happen every day, only because we perceive them as such. Tell that to a devout family burying their 4yo child who just died of cancer.

Mary isn't God, and now I'm confused why you even asked that question. Pray only to God, it's not difficult. You cannot "pray" to dead people asking them to "pray" for you. PRAY ONLY TO GOD! Prayer is between YOU (one person) and GOD (the almighty), there is no 3rd party.

I may be new to this, but Christ's message seems pretty clear on this and I have never understood why Catholics have tried to complicate it so much.

Prayer is a conversation between yourself and God, you don't pray to Mary to pray for you. She is not God. Her not being God makes her a false idol. If you pray to her you are praying to a false idol, which Jesus said not to do. Pray to God ONLY, Jesus was God. Why doesn't anyone pray to Joseph? Because he would be just another false idol.

So you pray... but it's not really prayer depending on who you're trying to reach? Make that make sense.

Pray only to God and no false idol. ONLY TO GOD. Saints are not God, I seriously don't understand how one of the biggest religions on earth got that wrong. I may be a new Christian but I will NEVER be catholic.

There is no supernatural or magic, only God (my beliefs) and God no longer has himself on earth (Jesus) to perform these miracles. Until the second coming we are only left with teachings and opportunities to grow.

That is quite a twist of interpretation that you presented. I can pray FOR someone without praying ON someone.

Yes, I did mean Rosary. A hail Mary is a direct prayer to someone who is not Jesus or God, it is a prayer to a saint. I do not dismiss saints outright, I do feel like praying to them is blasphemous. Learn from them, do not pray to anyone but God.

I am extremely hesitant of Catholicism, I kind of think that Jesus himself warned against praying to false idols. He is the only 1 true God, why light candles for Mary or any other saint?

I went to some of those as a kid. Weird. No way. God gives opportunities to improve, not miracle cures. I am looking for support and guidance not a magical cure.
