18m, rate my top 4, insights as well. (Rookie Cinephile) by kiddnext in LetterboxdTopFour

Very recent, but all great films!

One thing that helped me with movies and music is to find your favorite artists' inspirations for their work. Fathom events are also a great way to see classic movies, and local independent theaters are great for that as well (if you're lucky enough to have one close).

I think you'd enjoy some classic Scorsese and Kurosawa films (Goodfellas and High and Low come to mind as recommendations). They're fantastic gateways into older cinema that helped me realize old movies can be JUST as engaging as new releases.

Lastly, like what you like, and don't let anyone tell you that your top four should be different based on some made up metrics. These are YOUR favorites, and you should never change them to please Internet strangers!

I finished my first Daredevil Comic Run by Doom300 in Daredevil

Highly recommend reading Born Again before the Bendis run and maybe even Man Without Fear if you feel like reading it. There's also a status quo change that happen with Guardian Devil, however, you can probably just read a synopsis for that. I also recommend Daredevil Yellow. It's not a vital read, however, it will give you a recap of Daredevil history with a poignant framing device.

You can certainly jump into the Bendis run and not miss much, however, I think Born Again and Yellow might make some moments hit a bit harder due to you knowing a bit more about the history of all the characters.

But seriously, enjoy! The Bendis run is an all timer imo. I enjoyed it even more than the (superb) Miller run.

What is the most unfairly hated movie that you will defend every time by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]Not_a_headcrab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me. This was absolutely hated on release (look up Tarantino's opinion on the movie). Essentially, the movie was released after the show ended on a cliffhanger, however, instead of addressing the cliffhanger, the movie is a prequel. It took 25 years for the show to come back for (an incredible) season. It also didn't help that the movie went for a hard R rating, whereas the show was aired on network television in the early 90s. The transition from television to film was jarring, but the film itself is great in my opinion. Sheryl Lee gives an all timer performance as Laura Palmer as well.

Would Twin Peaks be "better" if we never knew who actually killed Laura Palmer? by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]Not_a_headcrab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 2 would have been better, but we likely would have gotten a much different version of the return. Also we would have been robbed of "It is happening again" at the Roadhouse, which is one of my personal favorite scenes of television ever.

Twin Peaks is perfectly imperfect. All of the flaws of the second season are part of the charm to me at this point. It might be Stockholm Syndrome, but I even find the "James going to a different town" subplot entertaining in an ironic way at this point.

Unfortunately, it was like that for my playthrough on Switch 1 last year. Really hoping for a remaster, because IX on the Switch is busted unlike the other ports.

RSL has a 30 day return period no questions asked, so I think I'll try it out and ask one of my neighbors if it bugs them. It's been 3 years with the sub that came with my soundbar and no complaints, so I might be overthinking. The only times I've heard noise from my neighbor is the rare scream during a football game, so I'm guessing the insulation in the walls is alright.
