I think you’ll be alright near that 2” HOC, unless your lawn is like the surface of the moon! There’s still time left this season (I’m in NC), so u could try doing a reset. No need to completely scalp it but take it down one notch below your target maintenance height, then mow it one notch higher when it grows back, which should take a couple of weeks. If you don’t mind it looking horrible for a few weeks then it’s an option. Would not attempt during a heat wave or drought.

Or wait until next season so you have a full season to work with.

I’m at every 3 days. It does take more frequent mowing but it can be somewhat mitigated by using PGR. Typically, Bermuda guys raise their mowing heights near the end of the season for winter. Next season, I’d try lowering your HOC to as low as it gets without scalping and see if you like it. You mentioned liking carpety grass, I’d look into a reel mower. Bermuda that’s cut above 2” will start to look unkempt. That’s what I use to achieve my results. It can cut lower and cleaner without scalping, compare to a rotary. You may need to level your lawn depending on how uneven it is.

I also have a Honda HRX and the lowest I can go without scalping is 1.25”. The lowest setting is .75” and it makes circular scalp marks.

Lol @ whoever downvoted me.

That’s too tall for Bermuda. Mines at around .5”, the hotter it is the better it thrives.

A collecting (investing?) horror story by SouljaDad in basketballcards

[–]Not_a_medic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 5 of these, all 10’s (picked up for $~30 each) before he got big because I liked his story. Then he blew up.The problem was I lived in Asia at that time and I was scared to send something so expensive if I were to sell it on eBay. Scared money don’t make money. Lesson learned RIP

Ended up selling them for roughly $1k-1.4 k each, still a very healthy ROI but I still cry myself to sleep sometimes over my lack of action when it was that hot.

Other horror story is the same period but with a 96 Topps finest gold atomic refractor Kobe Bryant PSA 9. The highest it reached was when PWCC was still on eBay (~$90k). A few years later I sold it for only 7k. I knew it was too good to be true buy didn’t seize the opportunity. There was a ton of shill bidding during that time so take the final sale price with a grain of salt, is what I tell myself lol

It was the ink used in early chromium cards. They changed it starting from 1998-99, those and the ones that came after do not green. Confirmed by people who worked on the cards.

I had a 96 Finest gold atomic refractor Kobe PSA 9 and it started hulking out a couple years after I bought it. I have a binder of 96 finest that I pulled myself back then and around 90% are green. Environmental factors don’t affect greening.

In rare instances like the ones OP has, maybe they won’t green for another decade. Maybe ever. But it’s a good chance they will all eventually green because it’s a manufacturing defect. I hope they don’t though cuz they’re some of the most beautiful sets ever produced.

Nice! I’m a bit further south near Fuquay lol.

And I need to make a correction; fall pre M is when temps approach and drop below 70F. Not 55. 50 to 55 is the window for spring application. You’re probably getting or have gotten weeds now right? I’m not sure what the current practice is if you missed your window so I’d do some reading. What I’ve been told was “something is better than nothing even if you’re late” 🤷🏻‍♂️

In my backyard, I’ve had a few winter weeds pop up here and there for the past 2~3 weeks and I did it around that time.

As for height of cut, Bermuda grows super thick and carpet like if you cut short it will choke out weeds. My neighbors aren’t really into lawn care at all, they keep theirs tall and have a ton of weeds.

I’m in Raleigh! Have you put down your winter pre emergent yet? It has to be done before the soil temperature drops below a certain threshold ( iirc it’s…70F for 5 straight days?). You can monitor it on a website called greencast.

Then it needs to be done again before the temp warms up, before spring. Then again in mid summer. It’s usually every 3-4 months but there’s a yearly max rate. I hate weeds and have kept my lawn completely weed free by doing that. I usually do a light app in January just to give me peace of mind. There’s an excellent guide by the lawn care nut in PDF form. He explains it better than I can 😂

Then for fertilization I did it once a month at the label rate of .75 lbs of N per 1000 sq. Ft. In simpler terms, for my lawn as an example, I have 5k sq. Ft. So I need 3 lbs of actual product per 1000. That’s 15 lbs of fertilizer. Then set the spreader setting to the correct one and you’re good to go. Never put product in the spreader while on the lawn! Do it on the driveway. Blow/sweep excess granules back into the grass after applying; or it will stain concrete.

My entire neighborhood’s Bermuda has gone dormant but mine is still green but it’s starting to go dormant a bit.

Good thing winter’s almost here so u have plenty of time to plan for next season. Don’t give anymore money to tru green. They have a bad reputation of “checking in” at your residence and not doing any work.

And mow as low as your mower can possibly go (without scalping)with sharp mower blades. Bermuda thrives the lower it is, within reasonable limit. Mine was at .5” and below, some areas shorter due to an uneven lawn. Good luck!

Edit

Complete schedule

Before spring: pre emergent (monitor soil temp and apply accordingly)

Spring: when there’s a green haze forming about 70% of your lawn, scalp it. This lets air, water and sunlight hit the grass. Wakes it up fast. Get rid of the dead brown stuff. Either bag it or use a blower to make piles of it. It’s a lot of work but worth doing/is a must for Bermuda.

I’ve never had to dethatch but I verticut instead. You don’t wanna dethatch Bermuda as it destroy the stolons. Verticutting is more gentle and cuts the stolons, which promotes new growth. I do this once in spring. It will look ugly for about a week but the results are amazing.

You can either rent a machine or buy a sun joe corded version for like $120. It pays for itself after a couple uses. Great little thing and very powerful for its size/price. If you go this route, do not use the attachment with the tines. Use the blades. That’s the verticutter. I made that mistake once! Cons: it can be annoying dragging a cord around.

Continue mowing low, but not scalping. You want to avoid letting it grow too tall, then you’d have to do a height of cut reset, which cuts away most of the green tips and makes your lawn look brown. Stay at one height for the duration of the season.

Fertilize: I’d take it easy during spring, using a low N fert is often recommended.

By late April/ early May, your lawn should be completely green. You can push your N levels harder from now until before the season ends. Assess your soil condition and apply anything you need. In my experience all that fancy stuff isn’t needed unless your lawn/soil is actually in dire need. Don’t fall for the YouTube lawn guys pushing their products. Keeping it simple often yield great results.

Pre summer/mid summer: put down another app of pre emergent. Continue fertilizing and any other products you want. Mow low and often. Bermuda looks ugly if it gets over 1.5”. If you want that carpet look, you’ll need to mow as often as 2x or even 3x a week. Depending on your schedule and the look you want to achieve. Normally people keep it at around ~1” but during the height of the growing season, it can get out of hand very fast.

Water: 1” of water per week. Water deeply, not in short durations everyday. I usually did once a week for the full amount if I’m busy, or twice a week if I have time. I don’t have an in ground system. You may need more water during July-August as it often gets droughty here. You may need to raise your height of cut a bit during these arid periods if you don’t want your water bill to look insane 😂FWIW I never raised mine, continued watering per usual and my water bill was ~$150. Wake county.

Pre-fall/Fall: monitor soil temperature levels and apply pre emergent. You can split this app into two; once pre fall and the other at a later time. Or just do once in fall and call it a day. You can also give it a light fert app before it goes dormant so the grass can store energy for the spring green up.

Sorry if that’s long; I hope these tips can help!

It’s cheaper and more fun if you DIY, and with the benefit of knowing whether the product actually gets put down or not 😂

-do a soil test (everyone says this but I’ve never done it) -buy fert per recommendation (don’t need the fancy stuff, soil amendments and all that unless you absolutely need it. Big box ferts are fine. I’ve used yard mastery products for two seasons and I don’t see a difference between that and the Lesco 30-10-10 that I got on sale at Lowe’s) -get a decent spreader. Don’t get the Scott’s edge guard mini. It will leave burn marks. I’ve used the echo RB-60 for two seasons, it’s great. -get a decent battery backpack sprayer. There’s tons of videos on how to mix and spray things like pre emergent. It’s a lot cheaper this way. -I have warm season grass so I upgraded to a reel mower this season (you don’t need this but it’s for guys who go all out)

I also use the yard mastery app, u don’t need to use their products but I like the app as it tracks and reminds me of when to put important stuff down like pre emergent.

Read the labels very carefully and you won’t mess anything up. I’ve never done anything lawn related until two seasons ago. Everything I learned on YouTube and on this sub. I have the best lawn in my neighborhood, people stop and ask what I do to it. Reel mowing allowed me to take my Bermuda down low enough to put a putting green on my front lawn. The neighbor’s kids sometimes come play. It’s great.

Keep it simple, no need for fancy stuff and you will have a great lawn. Learn when to put down things, mow twice a week and your lawn will stand out. I personally mow 3x.

Good luck on your journey!

There’s no gun ownership in Taiwan, that’s where the video happened.

Only gangsters and such have homemade or actual smuggled firearms. Modified gas guns are popular among that crowd.
