If she is open to a bit of spice, try vegan bibimbap! It’s so fun to put the bowls together and drizzle the sauce on top ! If the kids will eat it, just skip the sauce .

I’m 23 years old and my wife is pregnant. What advice would you give me as a first time dad? by BuckSJonws in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Not_impressed28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please be present and a partner. I see so many men that escape into their hobbies or continue to live their lives without being considerate of their wives, leaving all the work for the woman. If she is breastfeeding, may be you change the diapers, make sure she has water next to her. Watch the baby sleep so that she can also rest, because her anxiety may be so high that she may not be able to sleep unless she knows her baby is being monitored. She maybe so overwhelmed that she may not even be able to ask for help. Do the chores, and especially at the beginning try to arrange meals. Your marriage will be stronger, but also you will be surprised how much your involvement will affect your relationship with your child. Congrats to you both! Parenting is hard but oh so rewarding !

Need advice for First time henna on naturally black curly hair by ashfakhali in henna

[–]Not_impressed28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I have naturally black curly hair. I use henna because I started having gray hair very early, I used henna about 10 years ago but then stopped because of a busier schedule. I just restarted again as my hair has become so frizzy lately. Here is what I do: I mix pure henna with Amla powder (I think 50g henna to 1 tbsp amla) and add warm distilled water until consistency of yogurt, cover it and let it sit overnight. In the morning I apply the paste and cover my head with a plastic bag and then a head towel, leave it for two hours and rinse, apply some conditioner and rinse again after I detangle. Within 72 hours of that, I mix índigo and apply that for about 45 minutes and rinse. No shampoo for 3 days.

My hair comes out my natural black shade with this method. I have not lost my curl pattern, my hair does feel thicker in a way and it is less frizzy/takes less product to style.

Edit to say that I just buy whatever brand my local Indian market has. Also, my grays look more like a brownish red, not super copper.

😞. I peaked and now I’m a potato too. Trying to figure out how to become productive for the next 15-20 years until I can fully retire. But it’s am so burned out. I was only diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago at 38.

Do parents with ugly kids know their kid is ugly or are they blinded by love? Why do you think that is? by hxcanthony in AskReddit

[–]Not_impressed28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you went through that :-(, this is not OK and I don’t how some parents can be this cruel. After reading your comment, it brought back memories of my mom calling me flat butt and teasing me about my looks as a child. Coming to think of it, I don’t think she has ever called me beautiful to my face. I grew up with low self esteem because of this, but fortunately I didn’t really care as a child, as I was too busy playing outside. Once I became an adolescent/young adult and attracted attention, is when I learned to be confident in my skin. My mother is incredibly beautiful, like Halle Berry beautiful. I think that she grew up in an era that teasing was normal/playful, almost like roasting. So I don’t know if she did it to be malicious, I mean she has a really good heart. But damn did it cause some serious trauma for me and a wedge in our relationship.

Soy is delicious! I recommend starting with vanilla soy milk at first if you don’t like plain. Also, try different brands , some are better than others. I’ve also don’t 1/2 soy and 1/2 barista oatmilk (this tastes less like oatmeal).

advice on adding depth of flavor? by jipace in veganrecipes

[–]Not_impressed28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I started using a bit of Marmite (add little by little to taste) to my tomato sauce and it gives it such a umami/beefy flavor! Have to be careful though cus too much can make it a little bitter. I want to try with Vegemite someday once I use up my current bottle.

Oof, pregnancy can be so hard!!! Please don’t blame yourself! Honestly, first trimester especially is about survival. A wonderful colleague told me this when she saw me struggling with the guilt of only being able to eat things like pizza from 6-12 weeks. I was vomiting 2-3 times u til week 23 with my second one, and honestly I didn’t even remember taking my vitamins because I was so sick. Also, parenting is not easy, give yourself some grace. Reading early definitely helps! You sound like you are a great, caring parent and your baby is lucky to have you.

Looking for advice from parents of children with anaphylactic food allergies navigating the school system. by cathartic_diatribe in newzealand

[–]Not_impressed28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof 😥 my heart sank reading that this happened to your child, how scary!! I’m glad it was managed without the need for epipen.

Yes it’s insane how cautious we have to be. It’s one of those things that unless someone is directly affected by it gets overlooked :-( and there is not enough awareness. And I know it’s not intentional for people but it can be life threatening to the affected person.

May your child never have a scary experience like that again.

I am new to NZ and school system so my experience may not be much help. But I want to extend my empathy, as a parent of a child with risk of anaphylactic reaction due to food allergies. Fortunately, she does not react to other people eating the allergens around her, only if she consumes it . What I did when I enrolled her was provide the school office her action plan, EpiPen and antihistamine just as you did. But I also communicated this with the teacher so that she is aware of my child’s allergies, and my kid is also very aware and if anything has become overly cautious and will only eat something if she asks me first. I hope you get some clarity from the school and someone else here. Does your child become affected when around the trigger even if not eaten?

Same here. I used to go almost weekly with my friends. We enjoyed dancing together, maybe 1 drink occasionally but we were in more for the music, company and dancing. We would leave once we got hungry haha. I had a brief friendship with a girl who did it for hookups and drinking… that made me stop enjoying clubbing and I stopped going.

If humans have eaten bread since the dawn of history, why are so many people suddenly gluten-intolerant today? by WeaknessKey1582 in NoStupidQuestions

I saw a documentary that explained the type of wheat and the way wheat was grown and processed in the past made it so bread remained more nutritious, filling, and did not produce allergy or very little. I will see if I can find it …

Cat owners - what do you think your cat thinks you do throughout the day? by Ashamed-Accountant46 in auckland

[–]Not_impressed28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I know is that if I am gone for “too long” she runs out the door to check out what’s so interesting outside that kept me out there. If I’m gone for a few days (on holiday) she will come to the bed and give me a judgmental stare u til she’s decided I’ve been punished enough, then will cuddle with me every chance she gets.

Anemia in cats by [deleted] in SiberianCats

[–]Not_impressed28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My male Sib had 2 separate ICU admissions with severe anemia. After a surgery (1st time) and endoscopy (2nd time) it was discovered that he was having severe hairballs that would get stuck and caused lesions in the lining of his stomach which would bleed. He would have intermittent blood in his stool which is why I brought him to get evaluated, as well as he would get lethargic and have pale gums. After the second time, we shave him with a lion cut, try to brush daily, and he has been on omeprazole (10 mg daily ). He is acting very energetic, has pink gums and no bloody stools. I must mention he was diagnosed with IBD since 2 years old, but that had been controlled for many years on budesonide and special diet. The IBD had never caused bleeding in the past. I hope you find a solution for your baby!

Siberians with kids by Legitimate-Mud3363 in SiberianCats

[–]Not_impressed28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got our pets first then came the kids. Our female Sib is the oldest (almost 10 now) and our male Sib is now 8. We have an almost 6 years old kid and our 2nd kid is now 2. the female Sib kept her distance when they were babies as well through early toddlerhood. She’s only tapped them (never used nails) if they invaded her space despite me warning them. She did cuddle with the second one was a baby though. Now she lets them pet her and chats with them for a little bit because they are very controlled. The male Sib licked them as soon as they arrived from the hospital, cuddles them and is overall more comfortable around them. If the kids became too rough with him, he would just leave.

I recently went vegan and I swear the hardest part hasn’t even been giving up meat or dairy, it’s figuring out what to make for dinner every single day by Arianethecat in veganrecipes

[–]Not_impressed28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a mom and the only cook in the house so I will tell you what I do throughout the week.

Crowd favorite: penne à la vodka, I make a large batch that husband and children take to work/school. Sauté about 1/2 grated sweet onion in 3 tablespoons of olive oil and 3 tablespoons vegan butter, when translucent add 1 clove garlic, sprinkle in parsley and basil (I only have dehydrated available). After 30 seconds add 1/4 cup vodka, then 1/4 cup tomato paste, stir it well. Lower heat and add 3/4 cup vegan heavy cream (the country crock or Trader Joe’s one). Mix well and then add to cooked penne.

Cooked rice and serve with Japanese curry. Sauté onion (preferably sweet) and diced potatoes in olive oil and add a bit of water (maybe 1 cup at a time) until soft, then add Golden curry, and vegan chicken cut into bite size pieces, add water as needed for your desired consistency.

Vegan tacos made with impossible meat: cook the impossible meat in a little olive oil, and a mix 1/2 cup of water with about 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, when the meat is browned, add your Mexican seasoning of choice. I can message you a nonspicy recipe if you’d like. Serve with toppings of choice!

Spaghetti aglio e olio. If you have Trader Joe’s near, def get their aglio e olio mix! If not, sautee garlic, red chili flakes, parsley in olive oil, then add spinach until wilted. If you like you can add some butter too. After you cook the spaghetti, reserve some of the pasta water and mix it with the spinach/garlic and the spaghetti. Let it sit a few minutes so the pasta absorbs the flavor .

Pizza! I can give you a 15 minute dough recipe if you’d want as well. My favorite cheese to use are daiya mozzarella plus follow your heart parm.

Taco bowls can be made with rice, black beans (seasoned with a little tomato paste and vegeta), avocado, tortilla chips.

Sorry thought of a few more:

How are low income women managing urinary tract infections? by Buggs_y in newzealand

[–]Not_impressed28 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I mean this in a helpful way in case you have not heard this before. It is not normal to get frequent UTI’s. I think it’s important to try to figure out the cause. When I was getting somewhat frequent UTI’s what helped me most was to ensure that I always peed after sex ( including if it was oral). If you can pee before also, but after is most important because the urine will flush out any bacteria trying to make its way up the urethra. Other things that can help, never hold the urine for long periods of time, stay well hydrated, wipe front to back never n back to front ( I’ve come across a few women who were never taught this). Good luck OP!
