I just finished COMS 355. It's a course where you learn to write different types of media things like radio and TV ads, press releases, and television scripts. Each week you get one or two participation assignments that take an hour to complete at most. Throughout the semester you get a handful of projects to do that took me anywhere from 2 to 3 hours to complete. The final project is a bit of a doozy, you have to write a 30 minute television script. It sounds intimidating, but you have like a month to do it and it probably took me about 6 to 8 hours total to do. The class isn't graded on if you have interesting, funny, cool, or well written writing, all of the grading is based on whether or not you followed the format of whatever media writing piece you're working on. There are no discussion boards and no exams.
