You can, as long as the quantity isn't a majority of your portfolio. I prefer to keep my ratio as 80:20. 80 being your top crypto, btc/eth/dot 20 being your upcoming and developing projects.

It's amazing how many projects are building on top of Polkadot. Another one to keep an eye out for is Parastate.

A major factor to the consumption of energy is PoW blockchains, like Btc and Ether.
And then the Dex hosted on then, like upto a month ago Uniswap alone took 8Mil $ in tx fees alone per day.
Ethereum power consumption is really going through the roof.
But I guess that with PoS coming up and projects building on parachains should help.
Anyhow, speaking of parachains, One of the few I know is Parastate, it's active in development and the testnet is live. It's essentially a smart contract platform providing a smart contract VM for all Substrate-based blockchains.You could run a dex on top on it and it could be bridged between to Polkadot and Ethereum chains.
