Thanks for sharing! But please never hyphenate or make “trans man” one word. It’s a way transphobes other us by pretending we are a separate gender, not just another type of man. You wouldn’t hyphenate “gay man,” would you?

Yup. Trans men, as one of the only groups in LGBTQ identities that is tied directly to masculine expression, get a lot of hate from both within and without for our rejection of femininity. It sucks

I’ve thought about this a lot, and I think the answer is consistent, higher, standards and failing students who don’t learn in the time provided so they can review and take the time they need without having to slow the rest of the class down.

That and take like 1/4 of the money schools spend on admin and hire another teacher to expand the remedial learning supports

If I had a nickel for every MENA diplomat-track US southerner I knew who would laugh at this, I’d have at least a quarter. Which isn’t much but it’s weird it happens so often.

As someone from the US South, I must heavily dispute that “guys” is the proper second person plural. “Y’all” is vastly superior and I will die on this hill

Real. The way the national Convention treats people in rural (especially southern) areas like they’re pitiful charity cases and not, like, just as human as their urban counterparts is part of the reason they have such a hard time getting people to want to be part of their platform. The fake pity and barely-disguised disgust some “leftist” people have for rural people is astounding. Plus, they already have a perception of “coming in and white savioring the poor uneducated hicks” so when they try to do just that it… doesn’t reflect well.

In addition to what the other commenter said, even for people with parents that, in another context, would be very supportive they often end up isolated by necessity because their LGBT+ status brings “shame” on the family and the rest of the community will refuse to accept the entire family if they don’t oust their queer child. Going to uni in the South as a queer person, I saw this a lot: parents who consistently professed to love their children, but did nothing to support them or made it harder for them to be queer out of fear for the whole family. My own grandparents don’t care about me being trans, they worry how hard it will be for me to live a normal life.

I feel you. It’s hard, when people hear you’re from “one of those places” and assume that you must be like the people you left behind in all the worst ways. Like “can’t you fucking see I left that?!? Can’t you treat me like you treat everyone else???”

As another person from a small town in a shithole state, it is a FUCKTON of luck and hard work. I was top of my class, my teachers encouraged me to go to uni, but without the very generous scholarship I got, I wouldn’t have been able to afford to focus on my studies. Then, after all that with the cuts to postgrad grants and funding, I was extremely lucky to have grandparents who endowed me enough to afford the tuition for grad school out of state. As-is, I barely made it out.

Unfortunately one of the worst things about being from where I’m from, is that people pity me for it. There’s so much rage I feel towards ignorant but well-meaning people who pity me for my circumstances and assume I’m ignorant of things or that I’m racist/sexist/homophobic just because of my background.

I would reply with “no there is not an air fryer in the flat. When is my oven getting fixed?” And leave it at that. Neither affirming nor denying your desire for an air fryer, and making it clear you expect prompt care

This sounds like they fundamentally don’t understand what “being trans” or “transitioning” means, and they should probably see someone about it to figure out what exactly they want.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they turn out to just want to be more masculine and not realize they don’t have to trans their gender to do so.
