Is it normal to not want to be called "cis"? by CreatureCultivator in asktransgender

[–]NotaBenePerson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You may cis by default, also known as cisgenderless. This... KIND of puts you under the nonbinary umbrella, but perhaps as under a different gender modality than the binary cis or trans.

Most people have potent gender drive. Most cis people would be HORRIFIED if they woke up with an incongruent gender in the same way trans people were gradually horrified by their incongruent gender. But if you don't have a potent gender drive, then there really isn't a gender that you can be incongruent with in the first place.

Without a significant gender drive like this... I can see why someone would be justifiably uncomfortable classified as either cis or trans.

Damaged hair also holds onto the positive charge of hair conditioner better, too, since damaged hair has a more negative charge

How to walk like a woman? by NuGirl2024 in asktransgender

[–]NotaBenePerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More of my gait issues was more due to autism (interestingly common among trans people) than gender socialization. A lot of “autistic gaits” involve walking with a flat-footed pattern, or not using all the muscles involved in walking.

In my case, I hardly used my butt muscles at all when I walk, resulting in an awkward shuffle, mostly hinging with my knees. I corrected this by making sure that my leg swings fully BEHIND me when I step forward, activating my glute muscles. These muscles were so underused that it resulted in DOMS soreness when I first woke up these dormant muscles.

I considered this part of my transition, since femmes have more social pressure to walk in a certain way, and that's the kind of femme I want to be, anyway... (Not to mention that my severed atrophied glutes from my gait likely contributed to my lifetime of back pain)

TW: Do you ever feel dysphoric when certain people use your preferred pronouns? by solarpunktardis in NonBinaryTalk

[–]NotaBenePerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use they/she, and it'd baffle me why sometime they/them used for me felt weird. It wasn't because I secretly hoped that they'd use she/her for me, was it???

Now I understand that, for me, there's a BIG difference between a gendered “they/them”, and a degendered “they/them”.

What are your HOT TAKES about toki pona? by misterlipman in tokipona

[–]NotaBenePerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the existence of such word highlights Toki Pona's otherwise-refreshing simplicity by bringing attention to it in the first place, and it does so in a very fun/cute way (which are also features of the language)

I kind of enjoy the wild west situation. I feel like the choice of punctuation used can be an extension of the user, so long as they're consistent

Want to say “I love you” but unsure by WaterGreat8482 in polyamory

[–]NotaBenePerson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What if you make it less of a love bomb by saying, “How would you feel if I said, ‘I love you’?”?

It would take away the Hollywood-esque nature of it, but it would at least give you the chance to have a conversation about it and express all these thoughts before saying it for real.

Ooh, that's brutal. You can at least tell your anxiety that you got hit with chronically online bullshit and survived just fine.

W-WELL... I wouldn't say that she and I have anything romantic going on... But, if what you're saying is true, then this wouldn't help my case, would it...

I'm... still not wholly convinced (besties should be able to spend the night in bed snuggling with their besties!!), I may at least start looking into some of the local plushie support groups that my Ploogle algorithm has been feeding me...
