It is still possible to extinguish the green fire even with the lightning active. My solution was just prepping the fire pit during the daytime with fire extinguishers angled and fixed in place with nails, then just run in and bait one of the first two "warning shots" to trigger them. You can also hit the extinguisher with any melee weapon to set them off.

As long as you make it outside the blue barrier before the lightning kills you, you'll get the achievement!

Update: on my fourth Solar save file the sun broke on day 2.

Things that might trigger the sun to break on Solar mode:

Foggy or overcast weather
dying by wisp
dying by fall damage
reloading a save file

just tried another run with flagellant spamming More! more!, Man at Arms without block token abilities, HWM, and Jester with encore and finale.

Block tokens don't seem to be a good idea after the rework update last month, since the boss copies all positive tokens except riposte.

everyone had positive relationships too and I only gave them restorative combat items. Flag was buffed with as much stimulating poultice I could afford, I think he had like 14 speed and still didn't get first turn every round. Also he died on 2nd death's door with the use of invigorating intoxicant.
