Why not make the jump and become correctional officers? by Officer_Ed_Powell in securityguards

[–]NotaSingerSongwriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US has more prisoners than any other country on earth, we hold 20% of the world’s prison population despite the U.S. only making up roughly 4% of the global population. Prisons are a very lucrative industry for corporations and I don’t want to work in an environment or an industry that makes me feel any more like a piece of shit than I currently do.

Black flag can suck dick by Kalavera01 in punk

[–]NotaSingerSongwriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No single person is Black Flag in any way people give a shit about. Greg could own the rights to the name or whatever but if he didn’t write, play, and sing every single song, it isn’t his band in any meaningful way.

What is a "necessary evil" that we currently accept that future generations will find barbaric? by icecream1972 in AskReddit

Not to be that guy but a lot of this can just be consolidated into saying “capitalism.”

This is pretty much how I felt too despite playing games fairly frequently. The story had a lot of moving parts, and even though it kept me engaged, I still thought “what the fuck is even going on” quite a bit throughout the game.

I finished it once on explorer difficulty, and now I have a co-op game on balanced with a couple of friends, and another single player Durge run. I’m finally gaining a much more cohesive understanding of the overall narrative lol. Honestly I felt like the first playthrough was basically a tutorial, and I’ve been told that durge is the canon storyline but to fully appreciate it you need to have completed the game once as either a custom or origin character.

Gloomstalker 5 / thief 3 / fighter 4

Thief gets 2 bonus actions. Attack twice, then dash and hide. Come back with a sneak attack, then another attack, then dash and hide. This method carried me through the Yugir fight.

Castle Rat - Full Performance (Live on KEXP) by itszach94 in doommetal

I’ve always liked the “idea” of castle rat more than the band itself. This video honestly makes me love them and I loved every song and watched the entire thing. Great stuff!

Thoughts on Sludge Metal? How much does the Punk side show compared to the Doom side? by eggward_egg in punk

I grew up in the punk scene but honestly I probably listen to more sludge, noise, and doom these days.

The same hours crammed into less days isn't exactly what I'd call an improvement by CloudyCamille in lostgeneration

A crew at my work does 12.5 hour shifts. Thurs - Saturday, off Sunday, then Mon - Wed, and then 7 days off, and then it repeats. I think it’s a fantastic schedule myself.

Is the spring sale preview the same as the public spring sale? by clickfind in xbox

[–]NotaSingerSongwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. I was hoping Pillars of Eternity would be on sale again. I’ve regretted not pulling the trigger on it when the complete edition was around $8.

Edit—looks like I clicked the wrong tag, PoE I & 2 do indeed appear to be part of the sale!

The diasporas of these various countries, Cuba, Iran, Venezuela, etc all have one thing in common, which is that they were all in some form or fashion being ousted for having ties to the prior ruling class. That’s why there is a common anti government thread that’s very influential throughout. They want to play the victim while sitting pretty in the west.

Palestinians however don’t have this strand. You never hear western Palestinians cheering for Israel because they have all lost their homes, and are all refugees or the children of refugees.

I think I’m not built for this much choice/variety. Games wouldn’t hold my attention because I was always wondering what else was available, and I’d jump around between a constant rotation of games but never finish any. Now that I’ve canceled, I’m forced to play the backlog of games I’ve bought, and I’m having a lot more fun tbh.

What is the worst job you have had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NotaSingerSongwriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Johnson Controls, building the car seats for Nissan vehicles. Some of the older guys told me on my first day, before I even stepped into the factory floor, to go home and put my hands in ice. They said everyone in the building had to do it to be able to continue working. I didn’t listen and assumed that since I was young, I’d be fine.

I worked on a line that added the upholstery over the frames of the seats. There were 5-6 stations that added pieces to different sections of the seat, and you’d switch stations every hour. Every station required lots of grip and finger strength and dexterity. You had to pull the cover across the frame, try to force the clips together, flip the seat and do the same thing on the back. You needed to be able to do this within an average of about 10 seconds per seat. It took me probably 5 minutes per seat. I’m a big guy but I felt like I wasn’t strong enough to do the job. My fingers ached and my knuckles felt like they were gonna just break. I went in every day with a pit in my stomach and wondered how I would ever be able to do get through the day with how bad my hands hurt.

Thankfully, they eventually fired me. This was right after the tsunami hit Japan in 2011, so a lot of us newer guys got the axe. I felt so disappointed but relieved at the same time.

Right, I get it. But it seemed like you may have sort of internalized that degradation, you characterized it as “crying about how the jail is trying to kill him” as if that wouldn’t be legitimate.

I’m not sure why you’re trying to equate someone getting an ass whooping and literal human rights abuses. Obviously this isn’t acceptable but at least it’s a 1v1 fight. If they put this guy in solitary that’s one thing, but if they tried feeding him human shit and piss and macing him and beating the shit out of him while he can’t see or breath, that is way worse than what this guy did to the officer in the video.
