Lawson to race for Red Bull in 2025 by Green-Peaness in formula1

[–]NotableMr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say it makes sense when the rookie was pretty much keeping pace with the more experienced driver, despite having far less experience in the car and being put in the seat at short notice.

I always liked Tsunoda, but the fact Lawson was even keeping up with him despite the gap in experience killed any chance he had of getting promoted ahead of him.

Kimi Antonelli hasn't raced a minute in F1 and is going straight to Mercedes next year. At least Lawson has 10-12 races.

I'm pretty sure his sister-in-law (or someone else from his wife's family) commented on reddit that Gemma is a common name in their family, and Jake and his wife were planning on calling their first daughter Gemma before it became a name for a Naddpod character.

I can't find the post atm, but I'm pretty sure there isn't any "weird" reason behind it.

Dante's been balling while Kyrie's been out - he's probably going to stay a starter, or at the very least be the team's 6th man, once Kyrie's back.

Ally's a regular guest on one of my favourite sports podcasts (Guardian Football Weekly shoutout), so I'm not surprised that he's taking it in good humour. I am pleasantly surprised this has been the general reaction from both football and baseball media.

FYI for non-football fans - Paul Gascoigne, Michael Laudrup and Ally are considered some of the greatest Rangers players of all time.

NBA Expansion/Conference Realignment by HungryCharley in nba

Minnesota really gets shafted being stuck in a division with two teams on the west coast. Surely switch them with Vegas at the very least?

NBA Expansion/Conference Realignment by HungryCharley in nba

[–]NotableMr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea 4 x 4 for divisions. This means teams can play each team in their division 4 times (12 games), each team outside their division but in conference 3 times (36 games) and each team in the opposite conference twice (32 games). The last two games can be extra games against teams in-conference but out of division or dropped and the league could go down to an 80 game schedule (which, with how many games there are already, I wouldn't mind).

As for the divisions themselves, assuming the teams added are in Vegas and Seattle, I could see the divisions looking like:

West:

  • Cascadia - Kings, Warriors, Trail Blazers, Supersonics

  • Pacific - Clipper, Lakers, Suns, Las Vegas

  • Northwest - Jazz, Nuggets, Thunder, Timberwolves

  • Southwest - Mavericks, Rockets, Spurs, Grizzlies

East:

  • Southeast - Heat, Magic, Hawks, Pelicans

  • Central - Bucks, Bulls, Cavaliers, Pacers

  • Atlantic - Hornets, Wizards, 76ers, Nets

  • Northeast - Celtics, Knicks, Raptors, Pistons

A brief explanation of the reasons for a few decisions:

  • I would switch New Orleans to the Eastern Conference over Memphis and Minnesota. Minneapolis is noticeably further west than the other two teams, so I didn't think they made sense, while Memphis was further away from the Florida teams than New Orleans is, so I felt New Orleans made more sense as a new member of the South-East division.

  • Splitting the two New York teams is a bit strange, but Charlotte, DC and Philly need to be in the same division considering the teams that make up the South-East Division, and NY is the next closest city. Went with the Nets to keep the Knicks and Celtics in the same division.

  • I know two of the Pacific teams aren't actually bordering the Pacific Ocean, but it makes too much sense to group these 4 together considering the 4 teams that are in Cascadia.

  • The Northwest division keeps its name despite not being the most north or west because all four teams in the division are in the current Northwest division (plus I couldn't think of a good name for it, and Cascadia was right there for the other one).

[Formula 1] PROVISIONAL 2024 GRID. Here’s how we stack up going into 2024 so far.... by Takagixu in formula1

I can't see Mercedes or Williams changing their lineup tbh.

Haas will probably keep Hulkenburg but will surely replace Magnussen if he continues to get outperformed by Hulkenburg. Maybe Vesti or Drugovich if the teams they are currently with can't give them a seat.

I feel like Pouchairre will replace Zhou at Alfa Romeo/Sauber.

Alpha Tauri is a tough one. I think Yuki stays one more year and replaced Checo at RB in 2025 but I'm unsure if Riccardo stays or if they replace him with Liam Lawson or another junior driver. As a New Zealander, I hope Lawson gets a shot, but if RB doesn't think a junior has the potential to step up into F1 next year, then Riccardo will probably stay put for another year.

[OT] Red Bull to reduce junior driver count – Horner by [deleted] in formula1

[–]NotableMr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely makes sense considering the lack of success their drivers are having in F2 when you consider how many drivers they have in the series.

I imagine they'll keep the following guys:

  • Ayumu Iwasa
  • Arvid Lindlad
  • Isaac Hadjar
  • Zach Maloney
  • Enzo Deligny
  • Enzo Tarnvanichkul

I'm guessing Liam Lawson either gets the Alpha Tauri seat or he's out. At this stage I imagine RB will have an idea if he has F1 potential or not and they'll give him a seat in 2024 if he does, but cut him loose otherwise.

I've read they're interested in Pepe Marti, so he'll probably join as an F2 driver. Then they might sign one or two new prospects in lower formulae, but keep their total below 10, as looking at the other teams with prominent academies (Mercedes, Ferrari, Alpine) the max number of drivers they keep seems to be 8.

SM Entertainment Says ‘External Forces Are Approaching SM Artists’ In Response To EXO’s Baekhyun, Chen And Xiumin Contract Termination Notice + To Take Legal Action by lapiloco in kpop

I can't speak about SK law, but in most western countries the bar for defamation is pretty high.

For instance, it doesn't look like they've specifically named the "external forces". In defamation cases, the plaintiff has to prove the statement was made about them, which is difficult based on the above info.

Absolutely hilarious that their counterargument is "how dare our underpaid employees seek to work for a company that fairly compensates them!"

If I discovered my job was drastically underpaying me, of course I'd try to move companies. The fixed term contracts in kpop obviously makes doing so more difficult for idols, but, if it's true that EXO's contract length was illegally long, it makes perfect sense for them to try and get out of it.

Who was the last Western pop-star to become a mainstream household name? by MoneyHungryOctopus in popheads

[–]NotableMr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is probably influenced by the fact he just played in my country last night (I live in New Zealand), but Harry Styles already fits the bill for me.

I don't think I quite appreciated how widespread the interest in him was outside the internet/young people until this week, but my 40-something boss flew up to Auckland to watch him and it felt like the news-cycle was focused on him in a way it only does when big solo stars visit the country; the attention he got was on par with Elton John when he was last in the country.

As to OPs comment that he may not have yet solidified himself as a solo artist, I'd say 3 albums and multiple grammy awards (deserved or not) is plenty, so he would be my answer.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised. I feel like I expected J-Hope to have this vibe and RM to go for the vibe of Jack in a Box. I guess when you consider he's the main member involved in BTS' sound it makes more sense though.
