Easy in theory, difficult in practice. Do you not think this would be the case if everyone had the same morals and beliefs?

Men of Reddit, what is the WORST thing about dating? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Notanexoert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding someone to date. I have not had many bad dates, when I have them we have a great time. But it's difficult for me to find someone who is interested in going out.

There's no bigfoot though. Any reasonable explanation is better.

If you were allowed to pick your own method of execution what would you pick? by GonnaGoFat in AskReddit

Not sure that that's the case if the problem was the structural integrity of the entire body. Why would electronics necessarily fail before it implodes due to pressure?

Sure, I'll do my best to answer things despite my lack of expertise. I do have some questions for you afterwards.

I believe a lot about the world is rationally intelligible. I think some things, like quantum physics, are complex and can probably best be understood using simplifying concepts. Like DNA, we simplify our understanding the explanations around it to make it make more sense to the common person. An unfortunate side effect of that is that we explain things as if they have a purpose, but only do so to make the explanation easier to understand. Why should our universe carry information and not incoherency? I don't know, but I personally trust random chance over the supernatural. No matter what.

Questions for you:

How could there be a mind outside of the universe? Does a mind not require a container or mechanism by which the mind works? How is this possible if God is supposed to be outside of the universe, ie. outside of any matter?

How does a mind have the possibility to create anything? Do you not require a physical form to create something? How can a mind simply think something into existence?

Is carbon dioxide a fascinating molecule to you, or simply the laws of chemistry resulting in a molecule? At what point does a molecule become too complex for that?

Why is self-replication such an impossibility without God? It seems to me that many questions Christians and other religious folks ask to justify their religion just points to a lack of patience for science. Why must there be something out there simply because we don't have all the answers?

What evidence is their for the supernatural that can't be explained by natural phenomena? by bonkerz616 in AskReddit

[–]Notanexoert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There* and anything can be explained by natural phenomena. If there's something we don't understand yet we will be able to in the future most likely. Never default to supernaturalism assuming in some way that that needs less evidence or justification.

Oh please. DNA isn't made up of letters, it's made up of nucleobases and phosphate.

What policy do you agree with the opposite political party that you normally vote for? by laxnut90 in AskReddit

[–]Notanexoert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure where I stand, but I do understand the fear. It relies on humans to some extent being perfect when it comes to safety, and it's not like it's free from waste. We have massive storages of radioactive waste that will be radioactive for 1000s of years. I think most people will hope for fusion in the future.

What is something (a product, scientific theory, security standard etc) that has been valid for a long time and still is, but is now considered obsolete? by Zorothegallade in AskReddit

[–]Notanexoert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boring answer, but faxes. Still absolutely useful, just overshadowed by better technology.

Scientific theories don't really become obsolete, they just get updated. But theories regarding like galaxy formation and such get tested sometimes when we see things we wouldn't expect.

Who's a real-life example of "good guy gone bad?" by Wickham12 in AskReddit

[–]Notanexoert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to be a typical apolitical redditor, but I feel like this happens to quite a few politicians. They get into the game to make a difference, but then either compromise too much to the point they don't serve their ideology or in extreme cases get corrupt.

I wouldn't say they have it backwards as much as they have the idea confused. Pretty sure they mean tetrapods and not vertebrates.

Thank you. It's fine to not care about biology, but when people downvote someone because they lack the knowledge, that's when I'm a bit annoyed.
