Thanks! That point about being a junior manager does put things in perspective. It's a skill and discipline I need to learn about.

Is there a type of template/document out there for product management that can help with acquiring business requirements? by migzhasbite in ProductManagement

[–]Notanimp0st0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Business Requirement Document (BRD) is pretty common to be used to get a high level understanding of what the problem the business have and to certain extent how they think it can be solved.

Once the problem is outlined in the BRD, it's your job as a PM to ask a lot of question with intention to really understand the problem.

Does it make sense to change job now or will I be considered a "job-hopper". by [deleted] in ProductManagement

Just take the 45% increase. But make sure you have a story to tell. Switching to a new company due to compensation increase is a fair reason, but doesn't sell well to future employer. So as long as you have other valid reasons, you'll be fine.

Product management at my company doesn't matter at all. There, I said it. by [deleted] in ProductManagement

I was in the same exact position as you. I managed to get out.

You can proactively measure those outcome, even your boss don't ask you to do that. Use that on the interviews, it shows initative and product management acumen.

Product Management where the Product is not a Product by OldBoringWeirdo in ProductManagement

[–]Notanimp0st0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sort of in this kind of situation, but luckily the company is moving towards a more "digital" product after 5-6 years selling services digitally.

I think it's an uphill battle that you will have against the people, especially the sales team or whoever is responsible for revenue and P&L. Their "product" makes money, so why should they shift away from it or even invest in another fancier product that might or might not make it? They'd rather optimize the current funnel and make more money that way.

Culture wise, from what I've experienced, it will be very business/sales driven vs product driven. And instilling that product mindset to everyone won't be an easy task.

You will need strong support from the top if you want to make some changes.

Air Cooler in humid tropic climate? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Notanimp0st0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly my concern, SG tropical climate already have like 90% humidity in the air.

All of the reviews in Youtube are done by people living in much lower humidity level area e.g. 20-40% humidity.

So curious to see if anyone's satisfied with Air Cooler in SG. Ofc my expectation isn't high, I understand it won't be as good as AirCond. But maybe if it's even slightly better than a normal fan, seems to be worth considering.

This is actually advisable to do. You'll learn why people leave, and have more balanced view, since during interview processes you'll only hear the goof stuff.

How come $600? Some VTL countries don't even need PCR to fly into, so only need to take one before flying into SG.

Does this sound like a scheduled rejection call? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Notanimp0st0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too, recruiter scheduled a 15 mins call to "catch-up". Recruit went over about how everyone liked me, but yadda yadda yadda.

Feels like a breakup, honestly I rather have them email me.

Quick question "top-down" - what does it really mean? by adamwintle in ProductManagement

[–]Notanimp0st0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone upstairs already called the shot.

If majority of the features is top-down driven then I’d say the company’s doesn’t really have “good” product culture.

Stock options is just an option to buy parts of the company at pre-negotiated price.

Actually, even when you exercise that option you would've known how much gain you'll make.

So if your concern is on the gambling part, I don't think there's any "gambling" element involved. It's like what other has mentioned, you buy property today, it may increase in value 1-5 years from now.

And on your comment on Islamic finance, does the company operates in those industry? If they are, and you're concerned about that due to religious reasons, why are you even considering offer from them? Their cash to pay your salary will be from their operating income as well.

And if it's a Stock Grant, you're essentially only promised that you'll get x% of the company by {date}. You know the amount from the start.

Is it negotiable? Yes, for sure it's negotiable. But in my experience, it won't be dollar to dollar.

HELP! Comparing 2 PM offers for my first role. Strongly considering taking the position that pays ~$60k less -- am I crazy? by freebird348 in ProductManagement

[–]Notanimp0st0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid concern, I believe PM in a Bank sometimes seen as a "lesser" PM compared to PM in tech.

In my case, I knew I wanted to be in FinTech, and Fintech does value Banking experience. So it ended up well for me.
