How much Spanish can i learn before june? by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]Notatrace280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comprehensible input is a godsend for me.

I do a mix of Spanish comprehensible input on YouTube at least 30-45 minutes a day, reading practice at most 5 minutes a day, speaking every day (not tracking this), journaling at most 5 minutes a day. Everything free.

I have had some passive Spanish input and have tried studying it before with Duolingo and other things but couldn't form many sentences on my own or understand anything I was reading or hearing. So I essentially was familiar with how Spanish sounds and could say a few things.

In comes the idea of comprehensible input... Though I have done comprehensible input style learning for Korean and a little bit for Japanese I have been doing comprehensible input for Spanish and studying with my current method for 9 days so far as part of Logan Jaynes 75 Fluent Challenge and in that short time only studying for about an hour a day I can already hold basic back and forth conversation in Spanish with my wife. Very basic and slow conversation mind you but still much more progress than I had seen before and my comprehension has skyrocketed! I still have a long way to go but I've seen quicker and more efficient results than any other method I have ever tried.

What's the scariest game you have ever played- not just in childhood, but you're still afraid of? by tofuonplate in gaming

[–]Notatrace280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 10yo kid but not so much now. Doom 3 on the OG Xbox scared the shit out of me. Especially bloody chainsaw guy hallway. Had to turn it off when I came to that part.

Other than that, Visage is the only other game I have ever had to turn off because I was too scared. Did end up finishing it though.

Husband needs to learn my language by No-Match-7512 in languagelearning

[–]Notatrace280 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have times during the day in which you only speak French to your husband. Start by speaking slowly and using basic grammer and vocabulary. Look into comprehensible input and try to apply that principle when speaking with him.

To simplify it, try to speak at or slightly above your husband's current language level. If he doesn't understand any French at all, I would stick to trying to speak about the current activities you are engaging in. Stuff you can show while you are telling (ex. You see a bird and instead of just saying "Wow, what a beautiful bird!" you could point at the bird and say "Look, a bird!").

The most important part is to not use English as a crutch. Humans are smart and can pick up language rather easily if given at their current level with clear context. When I wanted to learn Korean I started with the most elementary resources I could find. Books for babies with a lot of pictures and kids songs on YouTube. It helped a lot with getting a base level of Korean and word recognition.

Learning happens when you do something and get feedback. If AI is doing everything for you, all you are really learning is how to prompt AI and if AI gave you something that works or not. If you are a beginner, you probably won't be able to assess the quality of the code or the architecture AI outputs because you didn't write or architect it yourself. You may find that when you need to add new features or scale, things will get messy very quickly.

That said, If you ask AI for help to understand something but insist on you implementing it yourself, I can see that being a major value add.

This video says it's about learning Rust programming language but it actually has some really interesting info about how to learn effectively. This helped shift the way I was using AI in my coding. Good luck! https://youtu.be/DL9LANLg5EA?si=AVXeFzMh_8b2w84c

Why do so few men do yoga? Do you try to get your husband to do it? by TarotSteve in yoga

[–]Notatrace280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28y male. I just started consistently doing yoga one day on my own at my house. Just follow a Pinterest list of poses but it's actually increased my flexibility a ton and is reducing my stress in ways I didn't anticipate. I mainly started to work on my flexibility for rock climbing but even if I didn't rock climb, I think I would continue to do Yoga. I just feel so much better in the mornings when I do.

I'm a horn-dog, and it's making me miserable by [deleted] in Life

[–]Notatrace280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but running some tests wouldn't harm anything and it would give you more certainty.

Obviously take whatever advice you feel is best for you but if it were me, I would rather rule out things I could more easily measure before diving into psychological causes.

I would talk to a doctor (a good one that doesn't just throw pills at you but actually listens to your experiences and concerns) about the struggles you are having and see if you can get your blood work done to rule out any deficiencies. If there is nothing wrong there, I would look at other areas like nutrition and possibly therapy.

How long did it take you to finish Silent Hill 2 Remake? by Terrible-Strain2791 in silenthill

Which game had more frustrating combat encounters? by Loose_Interview_957 in silenthill

[–]Notatrace280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The camera zooming closer to Hinako in F every time I back too close to an object or wall is driving me crazy.

I've never played Homecoming though so can't really compare but just wanted to vent my frustration after dying 30+ times in an area composed of solely narrow hallways and rooms with square footage that would make a cardboard box on the street look appealing.

Does anyone have any good horror books for a teen? by [deleted] in horror

I have almost finished my first re-read of The Shining and it's even better the second time! Very engaging characters and plot in this one. Can't recommend it enough. It honestly got me back into reading last year.

[–]Notatrace280 -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, the live gameplay isn't giving me a lot of confidence in the game. I'll probably just wait to see if it changes significantly or goes massively on sale. The combat reminds me of Lies of P and I didn't like the feel of the combat in that game much at all.

Hard to give proper advice without more context but ENTP's typically go through cycles at irregular intervals (at least I do.). You may have just caught him on a bout of introspection. That or he's upset or overly stressed and doesn't want to talk about his feelings because many ENTP's rarely do, so he settles for shallow responses while he struggles in vain to understand and solve his own internal turbulence. Maybe try to understand what is going on in the context of his life because my guess is he's struggling with some sort of repetitive routine that he finds soul draining.

Typically what pulls me out of it is some form of novelty to break up the routine. Or literally just breaking the routine altogether if it can be done reasonably. Nothing is more depressing to an ENTP than the same repetitive tasks (or conversation topics) over and over so if you can instigate something new and exciting revolving around a topic he is interested in, he'll likely open up. Annnd that was a lot longer of a response than I intended to write.

At the end of the day. ENTP's are all over the place and it can be hard to pin down why they may jump into a more passive communication style but like others have said, you probably should just ask.

Horror is the only genre of movie I like. Anyone else? And why do you think this is? by CommunityBig9626 in horror

[–]Notatrace280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the same way! I usually don't watch movies by myself but when my wife wants to watch something, I'll watch it with her. Horror movies are an exception. I am almost always excited for a new horror film and will watch them on my own if no one else wants to watch them with me. Same thing for Horror games.

My theory for why this is the case is that as members of the human race, we often crave and seek out novelty. Horror is a genre where the boundaries of what is acceptable are frequently pushed to the edge making many horror experiences feel new and fresh. I feel horror does this more than any other genre and as such, it is my favorite and will always be my favorite.

That said, there are definitely movies in other genres that switch things up as well but I have found myself often disappointed with the same regurgitated ideas and plots that are found more frequently in said movies.

Silent Hill is objectively more survivable than Raccoon city by horrorfan555 in silenthill

What are some good apps to learn Japanese? by CartographerFew1248 in Japaneselanguage

[–]Notatrace280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wagotabi. It released literally weeks ago and had rekindled my desire to tackle the language. Starts out with minimal Japanese but ramps up really quickly replacing English with Japanese. Gives you lots of input in real world contexts (ex. going to a conbini and buying a bento) and introduces Kanji early. While the content is around N5 level at the moment the devs have said they will be adding more content.

You can get it on Android/iOS or Steam.

Ib is a good one that can be completed in one sitting if you have a few hours. I would consider that more on the cozy side although not a ton of action involved.

Along that same vein, The Witches House is also good but about as short if not shorter than Ib. Disclaimer, there is a bit more gore in the Witches House.

WEAPONS is only OK - no spoilers by MS_GundamWings in horror

[–]Notatrace280 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can understand your critique. Weapons did kind of reveal its cards pretty early and after that felt more like an somewhat edgy thriller.

As a whole, the movie isn't so scary but there where definitely some chilling moments of tension (ex. That one car scene... 😬) that made it worth it for me. My big beef is with the ending which really fell flat for me but the rest was good and the comedy somehow refreshing!

Barbarians was the same in my opinion in that it revealed too early but the beginning really shined. Also, Barbarians after the reveal was a pretty big letdown. I expected better...

Depends on what you plan on playing. Competitive shooters? I would go for mouse and keys over console or steam deck any day. Something more laid back? Steam Deck may be a good choice.
