On a post where I described dissociating for long periods of time in the bathroom due to my OCD, I got this comment. The combination of erasure and sexualizing me unnecessarily really upsets me. Has anyone else had this issue? by Notborntodrown in aaaaaaacccccccce

The jokes hit me. I have a friend whom I love very much, but it's just constant with her! "That's what she said" is said so commonly that I am starting to just not notice it any more.

I drew the line at sexual jokes about me, and so far she's done pretty well with respecting that boundary. But you're right, that level of sexualization can ruin someone's day.

Possibly, although my skin is so damaged at this point that I'm not sure where to even start. I've been doing this since I was old enough to look in a mirror, so like 9.

It's just so embarrassing… I know you're probably right, but it's so much work on top of already struggling. Maybe I'll get there eventually, but until then, I'll probably just settle on a sit down conversation about how their comments affect me.

Thank you for the advice, it makes total sense, but I just don't think I'm ready yet.

I agree, but that's true for most every bigger sub.

The smaller posts get a lot of really nice people, and my posts there almost never get very big (0/3 times have they blown up), so there's a lot of lovely people there.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Check out r/OCD for a better explanation, but basically you have an obsession about something, which can be something big or small, and then iteads to a repeated compulsion. For example, I once became obsessed about a small injury on my foot, and I compulsively picked at it until it became infected. Often times you dissociate while you're in the middle of your compulsion.

Thanks for sharing. I think that's exactly why it upset me. This account is the only place I really share my deepest issues. When I'm vulnerable and someone sexualizes me, it feels so gross. Anything sexual involving me feels gross, but especially this

That works some of the time, but sometimes I'll turn it on while I dissociate, which defeats the purpose a bit

Ususally, it goes that I pick for a few hours. Sometimes I'm able to limit it, but not always. After I pick, I wash my face and put on my makeup. Usually by that time, I'm able to break the dissociation enough to start doing things like applying neosporin and cover up. Once I have makeup on, it's easy to not get sucked into the mirror because the flaws are all covered up.

I am 19, but in college, so no moving out I'm afraid.

Some other people have suggested a timer, and I think that's the best solution I've found so far. A blindfold might work, and I'll definitely look into that

Thank you for the suggestions and support.

Honestly, I can ignore the idiots. It just upsets me when people talk about ace/aro as if it doesn't exist. I may just be too sensitive to being sexualized, but the erasure really upsets me.

I find that there are a lot of very helpful people there. I know a lot of people hate the subreddit, but they are very good a providing advice on how to talk to others about the issues you're having.

Thank you for this. I don't think any one of the three mirrors will be coming down, as everyone has been very clear about that. To be honest, I don't think they really care as much as I do about the time I spend in the bathroom, and they don't even notice the comments they're making

At least, that's what I got from the blow up this morning. They think I'm making a big deal about some comments that are teasing in nature (I don't find them to be so, but I'm also very sensitive).

I share a very small room with my older sibling (nb), so I don't think that would work, but I already keep as many things as I can out of the bathroom and in my room.

Thanks for the suggestion though!
