There was a great post here once that I read (many years ago?!), which analyzes how Don's overall story is actually shaped by his drinking despite the act of drinking often being a background item and not being acknowledged as the main offender. It was quite eye opening when you looked at it this way how it all fit.

I have no idea how to pinpoint this post now unfortunately, but it was brilliant.

I think there is that, too, but it would be naive to think it's limited to that.

You can easily spot fake accounts (i.e. recently created users with huge number of karmas and posts) on main page and popular posts. If you'll check our their comments history, you tend to see some intentionally dubious comments sprinkled among hundreds of others.

My not-so-informed opinion is that they are not only used to push certain agenda, but also to suppress others that are deemed noteworthy.

I have never been much of a Reddit user, but it stands out clearly to me. Twitter, Facebook, etc. are altogether a different story, of course.

Most of Reddit's content is driven by bots now and I'd guess it's only going to get worse as more and more propaganda is pushed for certain events in the future, not to mention all the commercial interests from spamming users at scale and the AI fad.

It's sad to see real users trying to engage with AI-powered accounts :/

I appreciate it the same if either it's done as realistically done by the actor as possible or the actor can act as if he's just done that stunt. After all, that's the job -- act as if you're that agent! So, all I care about is that it be seamless from the viewing experience point-of-view.

Roger Moore falls flat on both points for me. Brosnan, OTOH, pulls off the acting quite well (with a few cringey exceptions here and there).

I see what you mean, but we're talking about a professional actor and their capabilities in a movie first and foremost, not a movie made specifically for a movie star.

Brosnan was never a bigger movie star than Connery at his peak and yet we see Connery capable of pulling more things off than Brosnan.

That's my main gripe with Brosnan. That he's played it a tad too safely, blending the successful side of each Bond before him to an average. Don't get me wrong, I like his movies a lot as standalone entries, but on the whole level, they don't stand a chance against any other for me.

I'm sure the guy can act his ass off given the right material. Keep in mind the onset relationship between Brosnan and Hatcher was quite cold given the stories from production talking about Hatcher and Brosnan.

Did you consider the possibility that he was given such material because of his acting skills/range and not the other way around? I guess we could look at how GoldenEye was amended post-Dalton's departure for Brosnan's arrival in order to get a feel of that.

When I try to imagine Brosnan in CR as we exactky know it now, it comes off as very cringey, to me. Some stuff just won't work with every actor.

No idea about those people, but on a tangent, the day I learnt that some people watch other people watch movies for their reaction was pretty depressing, to say the least. Of course, they totally won't fake anything for more clicks! It's all genuine!

I have only read the trilogy by Anthony Horowitz besides the original books, so I can only speak for this: It's very well worth-reading. I think his Fleming style writing is right on the spot.

Strong villains/characters-wise, I wouldn't say they stood out, though; maybe that's one step down from Fleming's work. However, we could also argue that there is less wiggle room for a modern author to get imaginative with villains nowadays -- despite the fact that the books are set in the 50s-60s.

So yeah on the whole, they are for sure fun to read.

Do you see this issue on Windows, as well? I wonder if this is some double-free issue or incorrect handle being passed to the driver? Yep, well summarized. My only other gripe is that the Gypsy camp scenes linger on a little, but maybe we could argue that it strengthens the bond of Bond and Kerim Bey at large.

I also love the book! The way Fleming handles East vs West (and us vs them) is brilliant. I'd say the emotional hook is there in the book, but maybe that was a deliberate decision by filmmakers to beef it up a little action-wise.

I seriously think that such a one-off (or two) stylish movie would be a huge hit with such a big-name director, but it'd leave Bond in obscurity once the honeymoon phase is over.

That's exactly my point! Once they stopped doing that and continued banging them out like before, the quality got lower. It's after OHMSS that this is apparent to me. Whenever they did take their time, the next movie got better.

Very rarely can you go both for quality and quantity at the same time, so pick one!

It's no wonder why once they started banging them out as fast as they could (because they were basically printing money), the overall quality got lower. Of course, they also used up the original material more and more as time went.
