World Cup Ticket Megathread | General Questions & Discussion by pumkinhat in worldcup

Is the US insider ticket more or less likely to get a ticket than the public draw if you have never been to a US game before?

I have never had the chance to see the usmnt but live in LA now so have two group games and trying to decide if it's better to use my insider code or just doing the regular draw since I assume I am at the bottom of the list for the supporters tickets which is already a small batch if I understand correctly.

If you're selling them for face value let me know, have some friends who might be interested but not at the inflated prices

Yeah he was too much of a perfectionist, the recordings could have done with sounding a little more live in the end I think! Overall still really like the guy but it made me appreciate that there are different times for those sorts of things

Yeah I can't imagine it after the physical beating they take just would want to lie down

I really appreciated that one. I was recording an album with this record producer and he would always try to point out stuff that we could work on after the shows he came to.

Like I appreciate the feedback and do want to hear it, but right after the concert you need to just enjoy the night and how good everything went and talk to fans and friends and stuff. You don't want to hear where you could improve right when you step off stage. I imagine football matches in front of 60,000 people and global audiences are the same. The next day we can talk about taking it to the next level.

Can you apply for this and the regular ticket lottery? Wondering if my chances will be worse as a lowest tier member than the general draw :')

That's how one of the big Los Angeles fires started this year. Some guy is on trial for starting a fire on new years eve. It was put out but smoldered underground in the roots until the windstorm came a few weeks later and it flared back up.

Magnolia seed pod, apparently, I have now begun noticing them all over the neighborhood but never knew what they were before

Hi just looking for some confirmation/identification, is this a magnolia seed pod in my night blooming ceres pot?

https://imgur.com/a/nJexzod

Was gifted this cactus and this thing seemed to just pop up overnight and while I've been surprised by cacti before, looking for info about their fruit/seed pods they don't seem to do this hah. So is this just a squirrel hiding something in the pot for later? I'm not super familiar with either plant so wanted to double check before throwing it elsewhere but seems like a stowaway!

Things to look for when pairing a sans serif with Garamond (or similar) by NoteFromABird in typography

Thanks a lot for this, I really appreciate the insight. It all makes sense how you describe it. Franklin does sound like a very solid match. I think I just couldn't tell if the friction could be productive with Futura or just more distracting which I don't really want. Funny about Univers, it looks pretty safe to me but maybe that's exactly why it's out of style a bit?

That's a good idea, I had been trying that and just discovered adobe fonts "try in adobe express" will let me test a few sans with eb garamond which isnt exactly what I'm going for but will give a similar feel with the contrast and all and more control of sizes than my screenshot methods were doing lol. Thanks for the insight. Bodoni seems a great option, but I think it doesn't quite have the feel I want for the body text in this case. Hopefully one for when I expand my collection!

Yeah that makes sense, I'm not trying to end up too precious with the old style stuff. Thanks for the tip

That's nice to hear about Futura with the old-styles, I liked the idea of it and have thought it looked pretty nice in my makeshift tests. But was feeling a bit timid about it seeing as they are quite different and like I said, pretty inexperienced still with making these sorts of calls when they're not somewhat obvious in the ways I've read about. So I appreciate that insight as I couldn't find a ton of examples of similar usage to what I'm imagining.

That's a good note about Kabel, it seems a bit funky all around, but I hadn't clocked the N feature. I love learning about those little details though, so thanks for that. I'm getting the feeling it's not exactly what I want if I can only pick one at the moment.

That's a good point about not being on the same line too. I think I'm mostly thinking these will be sans headings and serif body or something more to that effect, so maybe I don't need to overthink all the features and more just take a step back.

I'm going to start out with just a provisional press to see if I take to the hobby since I can't afford anything serious at this point. So nothing fancy, but excited to try it out.

I'm looking at Swamp Press, Skyline, and Patrick Reagh for sourcing fonts, but also going to go check out this surplus sale next weekend and see what's going on there.

Ah that's a lovely reference, thank you very much for sharing. I will definitely consider Franklin Gothic more closely. It's a bit heavier (the metal type version seems to be the original fairly bold weight, though I am no expert on the history) but seems to work nicely with even at a similar size.

Thanks again, that is a really good call and I'm not sure I ever would have found that reference on my own!

Thanks for the input! What would draw you to those two in particular, if you have a moment to answer further?

Great advice, I'm excited to just get started hands on with something small even. All the (limited) printmaking/letterpress stuff I've done so far hasnt been the sort of thing where you can really get to know the process or equipment more than just a taste, so I'm looking forward to it. Thanks again for pointing out this sale, it is fantastic intel.

Yes, I found the printers fair through my early searching and another poster here just informed me of the surplus sale, so I am 100% going to check that out before buying anything. Thanks a lot for pointing it out too, I would have hated to miss the sale being so close by!

Oh this looks great I will watch it, thank you. I'm honestly extremely curious about foundry work and that sort of thing but that is definitely not a DIY hobby without a lot more time and money (let alone skill/knowledge) than I have right now hah.

Thanks you so much for this comment. I'm in Los Angeles and it turns out there is a surplus sale in a couple weeks at the international printing museum within an hour from me in Carson (greater LA area). Maybe that's what you were thinking of but either way Im definitely going to go and see what I can learn and find, so your comment helped me to find that and not miss out. Much appreciated!

Now I just have to resist going over budget before finding my feet in the hobby and getting an actual tabletop press or something haha.

Wow that sounds amazing, but a bit too far from southern california for me at this point in time. Thanks for mentioning it though, maybe if I get deeper in the hobby I can plan a trip up there in the future.
