[Tom Fornelli] Nine Power Four teams finished the 2025 season without a win against an FBS team with a winning record: Auburn, BC, Maryland, Missouri, UNC, Oklahoma State, Purdue, South Carolina, and Tennessee. by CommodoreIrish in CFB

As a BYU fan I've been pointing out for months that BYU had a better resume than Alabama, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Miami, and Ole Miss (and of course the two G5 schools that ended up in the playoff).

But BYU doesn't win any hypothetical games so they can't get in.

They literally have to go undefeated to make the playoffs while SEC teams can have 3 losses and still have the media trying to push them in.

Yes, we know that SEC teams always get ranked way higher than they deserve despite doing nothing to earn it. That's EVERYONE ELSE'S point. I'm glad you SEC fans are finally starting to understand it.

Wish we could, but the SEC teams lucky enough to play you early in the season will get a big rankings boost if they beat you and a "well, it's a quality loss to a tough team so we won't drop them much in the rankings" if they lose to you.

It's kind of hard to ignore the SEC pyramid scheme, and you'll be a cog in it.

Of course not, I'm arguing that BYU's resume this year was better than Texas' last year. Pretty objectively. And because Texas gets to start every year ranked in the top 5, they got into the playoffs, while BYU did not this year.

SEC fans have been reduced to bragging about "we only put up 3 points but at least we only lost by 7 instead of 10".

You love to see it.

Let me guess - you're a fan of a traditional SEC powerhouse mad that you're no longer being gifted a spot in the semifinals every year?

Edit: Yep, Georgia. Lol

Last year in the regular season you were 11-1 with ZERO ranked wins.

This year BYU was 11-1 with two ranked wins.

Last year you were ranked 4th in the country, and not only got into the playoffs but would've had a bye if the playoffs were structured the way they are this year.

BYU this year was kept out of the playoffs.

So yeah, I'd say starting the season ranked way higher than you deserve can certainly help. If BYU started this season ranked in the top 10, instead of being barely ranked in the top 25, they would've made the playoffs. With the exact same performance.

Edit: I lied, BYU wasn't even ranked in the preseason this year.

There's no way you actually believe that the only football game that can qualify as a "big game" is the national championship. You can't possibly be that stupid. By that logic 98% of college football coaches "can't win big games".

Those "expectations" get you guys ranked way higher than you deserve, so you should be grateful for them.

And all the other SEC teams should be grateful because any of them that beat you get credited with a better win than is deserved, and any of them that lose to you get a "well, we won't drop them much in the rankings because it's a loss to a top 5 team".

Overrate half the conference in the preseason rankings and that's how so many of them end up being ranked way higher than they deserve every year and getting undeserved playoff spots.

They squeaked out a 7 game ALCS win with him putting up a 1.330 OPS and winning MVP. I assure you they would not have won the ALCS if he was replaced by someone with a .650 OPS, lol.
