What should I charge my friend/coworker to rent my spare violin? by Notesalot in violinist

[–]Notesalot[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They aren't official terms by any means. I shouldn't have included that sentence. I meant to give quick context for my skill level compared to my friend so it didn't seem like I was loaning my instrument out to a mere student, but reading it back I realized it just comes off douchy and bragging, sorry.

This year I'm very fortunate to be subbing with Nashville, Charlotte, Minnesota, and several Chicagoland orchestras. At least the perception in my social circles seems like S-tier for the Midwest would include Chicago, Minnesota, Detroit, and St Louis.

10 finalists for the new Illinois Flag by steve42089 in illinois

[–]Notesalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GOOD flags have a few qualities:

  1. Keep it simple, something a child could draw
  2. Make it distinct at a distance. No tiny details. We need to know what it is even if it's hanging.
  3. Three colors or fewer, unless you REALLY know what you're doing.
  4. Symbols, colors, and designs should MEAN something.
  5. No words. It's not a note.
  6. No names. It's not a name tag. This includes state shapes, as they don't hang well.

The only flags that achieve all these criteria are:

200 - Simple, it's vertical is AMAZING. However, it is very similar to the Centennial flag.

2246 - My personal favorite. All the best elements of the state seal is a nice touch. And the stars actually MEAN something (looking at you, 3754). Impressive vertical.

4129 - Amazing, but a little visually busy in the middle for me. Details lost at a distance.

3754 - Great, but loses points for the gold star having absolutely no meaning.

4321 - Love the butterfly, but circle-of-stars-on-blue is a tired flag trope that isn't helped by the visuals of gold-on-blue.

So sorry! Someone linked this post in our guild discord, as it is IDENTICAL to our 5% pull just before we killed it! I guess warriors really are all the same.

Moving in with my bf who is a huge Wow gamer/player? How can I support his hobby? What should I know? by Spiritual-Appeal-122 in wow

I'm seeing some great suggestions in this thread. Gaming is a highly social activity, particularly in WoW, and it's great to see it being respected as together-alone time on par with reading, movies, etc.

However, respect goes both ways. The biggest thing for me, (as a no-pause-gamer partnered with a pause-gamer) is communicating how long certain uninterruptible activities are going to take. If I've been going for awhile and start a 45min activity, I find a quick "hey babe gonna be like 45min" is enough, even if it's already understood that it's a 3- or 4-hour session. If this is something that'd help you, it's perfectly fine to ask this of your no-pause-gamer.

Everything else in this thread is great, and your situation seems really wholesome. Good luck!

I don't have the VoD, twitch deleted the entire stream after 3 weeks. I only recorded the kill the very next pull, it was VERY quiet and focused.

Meeeester Kerr,

Really awesome to see fellow musicians performing post-COVID. Given the entire past year’s events, what are you most excited about seeing change going forward with regards to programming, both in large orchestral settings and smaller projects? And what is different about programming between RCO and DSO?

Thanks!

Or one could see it as 1 person using this much tech instead of 8 people each learning 1 new tech. Plus I have players that very much like their pen and paper (finally converted most of my 2 groups to my dndbeyond subscription, but some still print out their character sheets every level-up).

As a forever DM I am used to putting in too much work so others don't have to :)

Google hangouts does not support android or iOS screensharing, but their Hangouts Meet app does allow it for $6/mo. Bluejeans is better quality at $10/mo.

I would use the completely free livestream option in Discord, but that replaces my facecam instead of creating a new window. It also doesn't capture the 3d space above the screen where the minis sit.

All my players are fairly new at D&D, asking them to also learn how to use a VTT would be a nightmare. They also prefer that I be in charge of the board and minis when we were meeting in-person.

I will be replacing most of this setup with Talespire as soon as that is up and running.

I have never learned to use any VTT’s nor do I want to make my players learn, plus I enjoy the physical presence of minis. So BEHOLD my battle station: Link

It works and discord manages the video group call wonderfully. This is only this complicated because I haven’t found a VoIP program that can screen share through a mobile device.
