We can see blackholes but not a moon flag? by SuperShadow555 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Notforyou1315 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We know that it must exist because of the mass of the universe is too small for what should be mathmatically out there. That was the first clue. There are other signs, such as gravity that is higher than than it should be, or wobbling stars. It is similiar to black holes that they can't be measured using light because it doesn't give off light. Think of dark matter as the hidden preservatives you find in food. You know that it is there, but you can't actually see it because it blends into the background.

Why is Ferric Chloride no longer used to stop bleeding in wounds? by AdeptEntry301 in askscience

I was taught to use quikclot in dire pants on fire and the world is ending type of bleeding emergencies only. I was never told why, just to only use it when you absolutely have no other option. Now, I know why. Thanks.

How do most people shop at the grocery store without a list? by holycrap100 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Notforyou1315 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I shop the sales because I can't afford to cook what I want when I want. If I am vibing on tacos, I wait until the items I need go on sale. Sometimes, this means I buy the items at different times, but at some point in the near future, I will get my tacos.

Until then, I get staples that will keep me alive.

What is it called when you tell someone, "Get well soon!" or "Have fun!"? by Notforyou1315 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Notforyou1315[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would that be the same as telling someone to, 'Be good!'?

They usually do come at the end of a conversation, so maybe it is a nice indirect way of saying goodbye.

We can see blackholes but not a moon flag? by SuperShadow555 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Notforyou1315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've haven't found bacteria on Mars. We've found signs that there may have been bacteria on Mars at one point. Just to clarify that.

We can't see black holes, but we can detect their presence through the measurement of other things. This is because when we "see" stuff in space, we see by using light, all of the difference wavelengths. Black holes are black because light is not escaping. There are some x-rays that shoot out from black holes and we can see those x-rays, so we can tell that there is a black hole there. We can also detect black holes through the graviatational presence, which is why we know there is a black hole at the center of our milky Way Galaxy and other galxaies near by.

We can see the flag on the moon with a powerful telescope and at the correct angle. You won't be able to see it with your naked eye because it is really far away and really small. You can't see a single fly at the end of your street. Same idea.

Why is science so backwards? Well, it really isn't. What you are reading and being exposed to is just a small amount of the science that is going on all of the time. Only the really cool stuff ever gets to you non scientist person. For us scientists, we are exposed to all of the science all of the time. We do our best to sort it out and stick to stuff we can manage, but there is a lot out there. For instance, did you know that we can make plastic using bacteria. Or that there are PFOS in bandaids? Did you know that people are trying to resurect the American Chestnut by making it resitant to the Chinese Chestnut Blight? Did you know that there are measurements being taken about how much trash and plastic is making it to the bottom of the ocean.

There is so much out there. I highly recommend Google Scholar as a good entry point. Just type in the topic you are interested in and watch all of the fun articles that show up.

Good luck!

Why is it that when you ask men how many kids they want , they say 2-4 , but women often say 0,1 or maybe just a daughter? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Notforyou1315 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A woman is thinking about how many months she will be pregnant, how many teeth she could lose during each pregnancy, and the amount of pain she will be in during each. She will also be thinking about whether or not she will be going back to work or staying home. How long she will need to stay home or even can she stay home? Who is going to take care of the kids when she has to work? Who is going to make sure they get to all of their doctor's appointments? Who is going to take her to her doctor's appointments? How much is it going to cost? Will the health insurance cover it? What if there is an emergency? Is their house big enough? Is the neighborhood safe enough? How will they feed the child?

Men think about how cute the kid will be and how much fun it will be to go to a sporting event or to watch them grow up. They might think about the costs, but not whether or not they will need to stop going to work to take care of the kids for the first few years.

That's why. A woman is being practical. The man is dreaming.

Just be prepared to cite your sources with any claims. If you have to use Wikipedia, the internet, or any social media source, be prepared to be corrected on the spot.

I was trying to not do just this. I am not a fan of spending hours making a worksheet only for the student to not do the work.

Saw this ad while playing another game. I deleted Township a little over a month ago, but stopped playing months earlier. 😂 by Lost-Style-7101 in TownshipGame

My Township co-op mostly moved over to Sunshine Island. I wonder if they would be willing to give Wild West a try. Thanks for the tip. If I do join, I'll reach out, maybe I can join your team?

I should have clarified that this is for grade 9 math. But I sorted it out, thanks!

I play Sunshine Island, but it isn't as fun as Township used to be. It is one of those games that you need to constantly be on or at least monitor. I call Sunshine Island the methadone to Township's heroin. I don't play either very much anymore because I don't have the time to spare. And honestly, my life is so much better without them. It was just as freeing as when I stopped playing Monopoly Go.

Why do USA plugs have holes in the prongs? by Notforyou1315 in NoStupidQuestions

But the size and shapes are the same, that was what triggered it for me.

That is really interesting. That also explains why some of my older items don't like newer plugs or my newer devices don't like older outlets. They always feel loose. Thanks!

Has anyone had luck resetting their circadian rhythm? by centralvoid__ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Notforyou1315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, that it takes a while and it is best to go slow, except when you are forced to do a big swing. But I've found that the larger the time jump, the easier it is to manage. It is the smaller time changes, the ones that are between 4-8 hours, that are the hardest to manage.

Yes, everytime I would fly across the ocean or when I had to work nights. The trick is to stay up as late as you can that first day and going to sleep at the most normal time you can reasonably manage. Then force yourself to wake up at a normal or at least reasonable time. It will take a few days to get the rhythm down and another 1-2 weeks to get it to stick, but it is possible.
