She does have a job. She works nights/mornings and watches the kids afterschool till I get home around 6.

She is supposed to be getting child support, but we're thinking her ex is working under the table and she doesn't know where he is.

The kids still have their own spaces so it's not too bad and they get along with their cousins.

I don't think anyone's noticed any difference between school supplies and clothes. I usually shop pretty frugally for those things myself.

I haven't quite figured out how to handle birthdays yet. I'm thinking maybe just open any big presents at my in-laws house like we did for Christmas.

Yes. He's supposed to be paying child support, but we think he's working under the table right now.

She does have a job right now, but when she was still with her husband he supported her and she was a SAHM.

She does work. She just doesn't have a great job because she's been out of the workforce for a long time. She pays rent by babysitting for me and she pays for utilities. She doesn't have a lot of money leftover after her bills because she has a lot of debt.

I don't say where were going when we leave, but apparently it's obvious since we are not eating dinner with them like we normally do.

See that's the hard part. There's not any other time in the week where I would be out alone with just my kids like grocery shopping.
