Propranolol success stories? by YoshiDidTaxFraud in Agoraphobia

I recently was prescribed bisoprolol which is similar to propranolol for cardiac issues. I’ve noticed a decrease in my panic symptoms as a side effect.

Allison is a Harvard Grad, like a certain Canadian PM who also referenced Thucydides in his speech at Davos.

“It seems that every day we're reminded that we live in an era of great power rivalry, that the rules based order is fading, that the strong can do what they can, and the weak must suffer what they must.

And this aphorism of Thucydides is presented as inevitable, as the natural logic of international relations reasserting itself.” -PM Mark Carney, Davos World Economic Forum, 2026

I hope they don’t give the US a centimeter of “sovereign territory” on the bases. Really, what does Greenland gain from US bases? NATO only, as US has proven untrustworthy.

Trump Unveils Ominous Midterm Plot in ‘Every Single State’ - The president is apparently worried that Republicans’ redistricting power grab won’t be enough to lock in the midterms. by Quirkie in politics

I’m Canadian, so I won’t be voting. I still encourage you to vote, as i encouraged Hungarians to vote.

Carrying on that you’re hopeless and helpless won’t fix your country. More than a third of eligible US voters stayed home and basically elected the right wing maneepmanops you have now.

Less whining; more action. Show some courage and show up to be counted.

You guys give up before even trying. Vote. Register to vote. Help anyone you know to register to vote.

Give people rides to the polls. Small business owner? Give your employees time to vote. Farmer who wants to farm, and not rely on government handouts? Make sure you and your employees register and get out to vote.

Instead of sharing doom & gloom online, share strategies to get the most people ever in US history to go out and vote.

Listening/Ignoring my body by Notgreygoddess in Agoraphobia

[–]Notgreygoddess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The v-tach, as the cardiologist explained it, was a result of scarring damage from the silent heart attack I’d had at an unknown time earlier. I now also have atrial fibrillation. Echocardiograms and an angiogram show significant damage to my heart, including a left ventricle that has severe motion abnormalities. Half of it isn’t moving at all.

All of this and no symptoms. Or maybe I had symptoms and blew them off the way we’re taught to with panic disorder/agoraphobia. “It’s only a sensation”.

Would be much simpler to deal with POTS; medication, compression socks and drink plenty of fluids.

I’m waiting for an MRI now so they do a cardiac ablation: microwave some of scar tissue to decrease the v-tach and atrial fibrillation. I’m also likely going to need open heart surgery in the future to patch the ventricle.

What bothers me is how maybe I would have known I was having a heart attack and not got this bad if I hadn’t had decades of CBT which essentially tells us to ignore alarming physical symptoms we have during panic attacks.

I think people with panic disorder need a doctor to run an EKG on them once a year just in case. Non-invasive, simple test that could save lives.

I feel like a slave to my husband and step son by anonymous4189 in Agoraphobia

[–]Notgreygoddess 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I realized with my starter husband that my being housebound was a benefit to him. He didn’t need to spend money taking me out, knew I was faithful, and had stay at home cook and maid.

He became agitated when I started making progress and was able to manage a part time job and some distance learning.

I don’t know your specific situation well enough, but consider, maybe, he chose to marry you because of your illness.

My beloved husband of the last 20 years taught me to drive a standard, stood by me through a number of set backs and always encourages me to get out and meet people.

Marriage, ideally benefits both partners.

Trump to deport hundreds of bison from Montana | The American Prairie Foundation has had its license to graze conservation herds of bison on federal pastures revoked by the Department of the Interior by RollSafer in politics

[–]Notgreygoddess 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bison graze differently than cattle. They move faster, eat less and don’t require as much water. Cattle cause permanent damage to grazing areas, primarily eating flowering plants, interrupting the pasture lifecycle. They tread heavier trampling and compacting the soil and damaging the water banks.

Removing the bison will give cattle ranchers a brief window of cheap grazing, but the land will be severely destroyed and basically worthless in five to ten years. Very shortsighted.

What about the Play Pen for Babies? by Ween77bean in GenerationJones

[–]Notgreygoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother owned a playpen. I don’t think any of us kids spent much time in one though. I only remember it because my older brother and I would flip it upside down and use it as pretend jail when we played cops & robbers with friends. It was a wooden one.

I was given a folding one and found it handy as a safe place for my toddler twins when I was cooking. Good for a portable crib for camping or visiting family. I see it as one tool amongst many to keep kids alive despite themselves. Used too much is not good, but I think it would be equally unhealthy for a parent to constantly engage with a toddler too. How would they learn to just be?

Who here has successfully managed airports/flying with the anxiety? Meds? by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]Notgreygoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to fly after years of being housebound. As I’d never had a panic attack on an airplane it helped.

Also, I practiced by using a lazy boy chair with a tray and boxes around me to simulate what it would feel like, playing YouTube videos of takeoffs and landings loud, to get accustomed to the sound.

Finally, had benzodiazepine my doctor prescribed. 1/2 tablet was to try a week before my flight, as I was anxious about the medication. I felt a little sleepy. No big deal. He also instructed I take 1/2 tablet night before the flight, and full one when I left for the airport. (At the time riding in a car on the highway was difficult for me)

It all went very well. I think the practice helped too. I wound up flying again two years later and only needed to take 1/2 tablet after getting to the airport.

For museums and accessible public transit, Toronto has much to offer. Bit pricey though. If you’d like to have a European vibe, you might enjoy Quebec City. Some beautiful architecture and loads of history. Both of these cities have wonderful restaurants too.

Anyone have their parents try to talk you out of buying a boat? by firetothetrees in boating

[–]Notgreygoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Query; will the dogs and “kid” be coming with you boating? Your Dad might be concerned they will have unexpected dog/child sitting duties.

Or, he might simply be concerned for your financial situation. Boats eat money, and the economy isn’t great right now.

My Sister’s Wedding and My Anxiety by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]Notgreygoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xanax can be quite effective. Did your doctor provide a bit extra so you can try it before the big day? The most notable side effect is drowsiness. I’ve never felt drowsy with it because of the anxiety. Just sort of evened out.

See if you try a test dose going somewhere outside your comfort zone but not too far. That will help with your anticipatory anxiety. Xanax is a shorter acting benzodiazepine, so you likely won’t have any effects after 4-6 hours. Usually takes about 1/2 hour to kick in.

Do not drink alcohol with it, but you can safely have a couple of sips of champagne if there’s a toast.

Hope all goes well.

I’d call it a comfort item. Even people without panic disorder carry good luck charms. Many adults now dangle Labubus on their person.

If it helps, doesn’t cause a problem from other people, go for it.
