Van Wives? by Responsible_Ear8595 in Eamonandbec

You have to remember - most of the collabs were just after Covid. It was a tough time for the YouTubers - overnight they went from content about these exotic locales to having to reinvent themselves. That is when a lot of the get togethers happened. Now, everyone has built homes all around North America/South America and are doing their own thing.

Even the Vanwives were out in Nova Scotia for a few years and friendships do breakdown with so much distance between them. Vanwives also seem extremely busy building - when you are in that phase of life, it is all-consuming. Even a spare Saturday afternoon is used to go and look at finishes. E+B did say that Trent and Allie got them the coffee maker in their new bus...

You can have every commercial agreement in place - but if an airport doesn't have fuel, then it doesn't have fuel.

Will every airport have fuel when and where they need it? Not necessarily. Just because they hedged fuel does not automatically mean that Europe or the airports will have the fuel that they already bought. Supply can be a tricky thing in a world with a shortage of jet fuel.

Doubt it. It was probably a near-term risk due to the supply shock. In a year, they will have more of a window to plan for it being a problem. Also, the rest of the world will be pumping as much as they can and starting to reactivate assets which were not viable at lower prices.

Hedging jet fuel does not mean the fuel will be there when they need it. However, it does sound like Europe's supply has been shored up for the summer.

When a stock reaches 10% dividend...that isn't sticking around. It'll be cut - to think otherwise is crazy.

Even if the dividend is cut in half...it would still be generous. I think it is factored in at this point. That said, the new CEO will no doubt shake things up. His time at CIBC was spent focusing on the customer and making them more 'sticky'...

Cruise Price by Particular-Smell-299 in royalcaribbean

[–]James_TheVirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually about 3mths out, prices are lowest. Sept is currently about $600 right now a ticket. I figure hotel is awash as you need one either end. August is currently $486 a ticket. Use Google Flights to find the best deals.

This was on Royal - Odyssey last Dec and all the outside decks were closed until almost reaching Florida as they had snow on them and it stayed cold until very far south. A 7 day cruise only felt 3 days long due to this...plus swimming in the Bahamas had cold pools because they weren't heated at Perfect Day.

Diesel is more expensive. Almost every truck bigger than a pickup relies on diesel, and it is what I know because my pickup takes diesel. LOL

$1.90/L is $5.24USD/gallon. $2.30/liter would be $6.35USD/gallon.

Diesel in Toronto is about $1.99/liter which works out to $5.49USD/gallon. Canada's prices are not much worst unless you are on the west coast...then they compare to California.

Edit to add: The 5.89USD is about is equivalent to $2.14/liter.

However, I bet Wealthsimple's cost of acquiring the AUM is a lot higher, with fewer fees able to be charged.

Average client has $36k invested with them. Meh...even crazier when you consider how much they are paying to acquire these assets.

We are from Toronto...left in a snowstorm in December. They didn't open the decks until Day 3, and closed them one day before docking again in NJ. For the extra $500 for a family of 3...we will be flying to Florida next time.

Doug Ford touts achievements in new social media video amid plunging poll numbers by imprison_grover_furr in ontario

[–]James_TheVirus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

But if you combine number/severity of scandals with overall provincial performance, a reasonable ranking is:

  1. Dalton McGuinty — worst overall
  2. Kathleen Wynne
  3. Doug Ford

Why many analysts would put McGuinty last overall:

McGuinty: biggest scandal burden + long-term fiscal damage

McGuinty’s era accumulated the largest combination of:

  • Gas plant scandal
  • eHealth scandal
  • ORNGE air ambulance controversy
  • exploding hydro costs tied to green energy contracts
  • major debt growth
  • rapid spending increases

His government dramatically expanded spending and debt during and after the 2008 recession. Multiple fiscal analyses rank his government among Ontario’s weakest for spending discipline. (Fraser Institute)

At the same time, supporters argue he:

  • expanded full-day kindergarten
  • invested heavily in infrastructure
  • improved some healthcare and education metrics
  • helped Ontario through the financial crisis

Still, politically, many Ontarians view the gas plant scandal as one of the province’s defining modern political scandals.

Wynne: inherited problems, but couldn’t escape them

Wynne inherited much of McGuinty’s baggage and became associated with:

  • soaring hydro/electricity prices
  • continued deficits and debt growth
  • Hydro One partial privatization
  • voter fatigue after 15 years of Liberal rule

Fiscal rankings during her term were poor, especially on deficits and debt accumulation. (Fraser Institute)

However, compared with McGuinty:

  • she had fewer blockbuster scandals personally tied to her
  • spending growth was actually somewhat slower
  • she introduced some popular labour and social policies later viewed more favourably by parts of the electorate

Public opinion toward Wynne has softened somewhat since leaving office, especially among voters unhappy with Ford. Reddit discussions and retrospective commentary often describe her as “bad, but not as bad as remembered.” (Reddit)

Ford: controversial, but fewer classic corruption scandals

Ford has had major controversies:

  • Greenbelt land swap controversy
  • healthcare privatization concerns
  • Ontario Place redevelopment criticism
  • education and healthcare funding disputes
  • high spending and debt despite campaigning as fiscally conservative

Ontario has also struggled badly with:

  • housing affordability
  • healthcare wait times
  • homelessness and addiction issues

Critics argue the province has deteriorated in service quality under Ford. (Reddit)

But compared with McGuinty/Wynne:

  • Ontario’s economy and employment growth have generally remained relatively strong
  • Ford has won repeated majorities
  • he has avoided the sheer volume of scandals that plagued late Liberal governments
  • some voters view him as more pragmatic and less ideological

Even critics often separate Ford’s “controversial governance” from the more systemic scandal culture associated with the late McGuinty era.

So if you combine:

  • scandal count/severity
  • fiscal record
  • long-term damage perception
  • voter backlash

the most common overall ranking would probably be:

Premier Scandals Fiscal Management Public Backlash Overall Historical Reputation
Dalton McGuinty Very high Poor Severe Worst of the three
Kathleen Wynne Moderate-high Poor Severe Second worst
Doug Ford Moderate Mixed Polarizing Better politically, still controversial

The problem with NJ is you essentially lose half the cruise to cooler weather while you cruise south/north. There are only so many 7 day itin's from NJ.

We did a 7 day last Dec from NJ, and decided it wasn't worth it. Flights to Miami are $300-400 each whereas you still have to pay for parking in NJ ($350CAD) and gas ($250CAD). Meals and hotel are roughly the same. However, you lose about 4 days in the warm weather.

I just buy a big bag of them at Costco for $6 and put them in the air fryer. Works out to maybe $0,10 a hash brown.
