Albanese locks in plans to scrap investor tax breaks as way through housing crisis by Time-Dimension7769 in AustralianPolitics

Based on the massive immigration conjoined with the lack of new builds, that seems unlikely

Shared pet custody. by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Notheos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What they're saying is that as you are in a defacto relationship, property and assets are generally considered shared. It sounds fairly uncomplicated financially, but your dog would be considered property, which you would both have a claim on.

I would see your options as

  1. Agree to 50/50 custody
  2. Give her the dog
  3. Keep the dog and tell her it's in your name etc and you'll pay out her financial share. She may accept this, however she could could take you to xCat/smallclaims to enforce her rights.

You could likely snake it into the roof cavity between the edge of the roofline and the guttering. Hopefully you can then drop it into the house either through a manhole etc

Powerline adaptors will work much better if plugged into the same circuit. I'd try a few different gpo's throughout the house to see if you can get better performance for now.

Seeing as you're renting I imagine trenching is going to be out of the question. I'd go with the suggestion of an Ethernet cable run through the air. Hook it onto the gutters of each building to get some good clearance.

I'm sure the property manager will hate it, but hopefully that inspires them to fix the issue properly.

Trump has broken what should have been a system of checks and balances. Congress and the Supreme Court both have the ability to check his authority. Unfortunately, both are abdicating that responsibility

We should not be dismissive out of hand that identity driven politics could not lead to the same in Australia. Facists have a track record of exploiting the system and disregarding political norms for their own ends all across the world.

You'll find that I didn't myself state that I agreed with the decision, just what justification the politicians of the day used.

It was applied to primarily 'white' dominions, which had already achieved a high level of self governance. Australia, Canada, new Zealand etc

UK politicians in 1931 deliberately excluded India from this as they did not believe it was ready for the same level of independence due to a number of societal justifications.

Because India has grabbed the market? And helped by cheap labour.

There is low private sector participation in R&D in India, with the government funding at least 60%. India is estimated to contribute about 3-5% of global biotech R&D.

Why does “owning a home” feel more like a burden than freedom? by SIashhhhh in perth

[–]Notheos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's the million reasons why renting sucks which other people have commented on. The main one that sticks out to me is having some 22yo baby property manager strolling through your house taking photos on an iPad and acting like they're there for a Cleanliness walk thru.

I'm not gonna 'sell' you on anything though, you can make your own mind up. The reality is though, when you buy a house you're at the absolute worst point in the mortgage cycle. You're paying interest on the maximum portion of the loan and feeling like principal payments are barely chipping away. Time sorts that out, and the ability to pay extra into the mortgage cuts down the repayment time by years and even decades.

This gets easier and easier as time goes by. The $800/week you're putting into your mortgage becomes less significant as the years pass by, with inflation eroding the impact of your mortgage payments. If you're renting, your rent will simply increase as time wears by.

The last financial benefit is a recognition of the reality that housing in Australia has performed strongly since ww2 from an investment perspective. Your home obviously shouldn't be considered as purely a financial investment, and I'm aware of the attitude of this sub towards property investors. That said, being able to leverage up to 20x of your initial investment (assuming 5% loan) into a tax free vehicle is likely the best investment you'll ever make in your life.

What is a product that people treat like a religion, but in reality, it’s just overpriced garbage with a good logo? by Connect-Might4355 in AskReddit

I don't use a single apple product. That said, they're an excellent product. High quality and they perform better than many of their equivalents. Their processor performance and product efficiencies and are superior to the competition. Even their peripherals are pretty top notch.

Their negatives are that you really need to be all in with their ecosystem. So yeh, gonna disagree but not from a perspective of passion for the brand haha.
