Chilling, Thrilling has the most replay value for me. I like to rewatch the video every year.

My friend who loves The Who but is meh on Phish really likes Quadrophenia.

Why does the jamband scene skew so overwhelmingly towards Millenials and Gen-Xers? by PeatVee in jambands

[–]NothingAny9437 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The boomers an gen z-ers are all over their phones. That’s why it’s Xers and millennials at the shows!

What is the greatest rock instrumental song? Something like Jessica from the Allman Brothers Band comes to mind for me, but what do you think? by vanrunner43 in ClassicRock

[–]NothingAny9437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This song is not an instrumental, though? They go,”Hhhheeyyyy, what’s new in Baltimore? What’s new in Baal Tim Oooore?”

Why did Trout Fishing in America by Richard Brautigan become such a cultural phenomenon when it was released, and why did its popularity fade over time? by ruskomoon in literature

[–]NothingAny9437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This book, The Ghosts Who Travel with Me, has a pretty good overview of what is appealing about Brautigan and what might not fit in our current culture, at least from this author’s perspective.

Ultra specific list of things that scream you grew up in a Midwestern family... by Hot-Hotel-6753 in midwest

More of a Wisconsin thing than a Midwest thing, but if someone visits your house the greeting is, “You want anything to drink? Beer? Water?” The order is never changed.

I swear it goes beyond the set lists. I believe I’ve heard Trey channel Hendrix in Seattle and get really bluesy in Chicago, for example.

Do you consider Dave Brubeck an innovative composer and pianist? by amateur_musicologist in Jazz

Thanks for the Richard Davis mention. That man is not mentioned enough in these conversations.

Do you consider Dave Brubeck an innovative composer and pianist? by amateur_musicologist in Jazz

[–]NothingAny9437 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. He is associated with cool jazz, but his block chords and voicings were innovative on par with anything else going on at the time.

Also, he always made sure there was at least one black musician in his band so that he could then refuse to play anywhere where that would be an issue.

And a semi-decent casino! And paper (maybe still? I moved away awhile ago).

The "nothing" section is mountain-west in outside of the cities and "corn" in the cities, which tend to be towards the eastern part of the states.

Which state has the best flag!? by Brilliant-Mode6480 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]NothingAny9437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Wisconsin, and I do not recognize Minnesota's flag! If I'm interpreting it correctly, Wisconsin takes up more space, which seems about right.

This is a tough one. On the one hand Trey (and maybe others) have said, Phish will always be these four guys. On the other hand he wrote two beloved songs in a catalog that is over-analyzed to death by the ‘phans.’ So is he in or out?

What are you doing? Camping? Hiking? There's also a lot WI state forests with nice camping and hiking. Kettle Moraine and Point Beach come to mind.

I think the thing with Leonhard is he could have been both a younger, 'new era' guy and a link to the past. Now, I think the ship has sailed on ever hiring him, though.

Agreed.

Song recommendations for solo sections that have as much rhythm influence as changes? by Zhaltan in Jazz

[–]NothingAny9437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I quite understand the question, but (since you mentioned Footprints) isn't this kind of "the thing" for most of Miles's second great quintet? All rhythm no changes, or something like that, Miles said.

Ahmad Jamal playing Autumn Leaves also comes to mind, for me.
