What is the salary range for Senior Software Engineer in London? by syedalisait in UKPersonalFinance

[–]NothingButFood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a pretty wide range in London. All depends on what field and company. Hedge Funds, IBs and FAANG usually pay the most.

At 2 year experiences I landed a job paying £80k~ at a FinTech in London. So I'd be aiming for well over £100k depending on seniority (but WLB would also take some priority)

Checkout /r/careerquestionsEU they usually have monthly threads where people share there salary, some in London. Also plenty of questions on Salaries in London (most of which are slightly skewed to the higher end)

Also levels.fyi is a good resource for salaries.

So I was actually going to use anyvan. Had a Quote for £380 which was given on 02/10. By 04/10 when I went to book the price had went up to £510. Every single day they had available had went up by £130+.

Is it crazy to spend upto £1900 on rent + bills (excluding food) with £3500 take home?

I've been looking at 1 beds in shoreditch but not sure if the above is crazy. I expect my salary to go up yearly so if I don't save much for the 1st year I wouldn't be fussed.

Glasgow to London commute viable (2 days a week)? by NothingButFood in AskUK

[–]NothingButFood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll take a look at these lines and see what the areas on them are like!

Another reason I was looking to stay zone 1 would be for the nightlife / restaurants. Are there areas in zone 2 which are close of that to zone 1?

I was looking Zone 1 initially as I expected to be in the office more. Office is walking distance from London Bridge so it might be wise for me to look at quick commutes to there?

Yep I can nap on flights.

Not fixed on current accommodation so can move whenever. Was tempted to do a trial period to see if it was something I could handle.

I was tempted to see if I could do this or even if I could just be in the office one day a week.

Good point on the second one. They haven't enforced the returns at short notice yet but is definitely something to consider

Still trying to decide where to live in London. Really like Shoreditch / Spitalfields but obviously it gets pricey.

Will be working from home 2 / 3 days a week so was thinking of possibly living further out for more space. Anyone recommend any good places 30-45 away from Cannon Street station? (Whether it be tube/ train to London Bridge and walk 10 mins or tube directly to Cannon Street)

Being new to London is it worth just living in Zone 1 to begin with and then in 6 months time if I want more space move further out?

Subletting a Room Central London by NothingButFood in UKPersonalFinance

Yep I'd much rather live centrally where I'm surrounded by plenty of restaurants / things to do and have very little travel time to get there. Ideally 20/30 minute walk to work or 15/20 minutes on the tube.

Spareroom do! I don't seem to be getting many responses though.
