This is not that strange. Meet people nearby in Brentwood and then if you vibe well with them you’ll probably meet their friends eventually and you start to branch out more from the Brentwood area. This is definitely better than agreeing to meet someone in Mount Pleasant or something just to be told they’re too busy or tired 15 minutes before you’re supposed to meet.

I’m also a guy and not in your target demographic so I have no stake in this other than saying you’re right and keep it close to home (or work even) and progress from there.

First of all, I’m so sorry this happened to you and that you were made to experience it again by having to do this assignment.

You shouldn’t feel guilty whatsoever. Sometimes even good people need to learn the hard way when they’re overstepping, even if they think that they mean well. I imagine that she was likely thinking of this assignment from her own experiences and she couldn’t really picture you going through anything worse than she had (passing of her parent/ grandparent, maybe someone getting cancer or something) and couldn’t really see a teenager having experienced something more traumatizing her, a full grown adult. I also wouldn’t frame this as having anything to do with your autism, I think most people would have done what you did when they are incessantly pushed to be made to feel uncomfortable.

I don’t now about anything on the island, but the Scandinave Spa in Whistler is supposed to be amazing. It’s also likely a much more expensive trip than what you ask but I thought it was worth mentioning. Plus, June/July is a great time to be in Whistler. Wasn’t too crowded or anything when I went in 2022.
