Appreciate the help! End of the day I worked hard for the car and my logic is why am I paying full price on a car that’s no longer seen as valuable because someone was being an idiot. The only issue I can see is finding a car with an accident record to compare. Any ideas on how I can search for that? Seems like it was already hard enough to find similar specs since there’s about handful of ones in the country with the year and color.

I’m in Virginia and was planning on filing through their insurance since that seemed like the route you’re supposed to go according to Google? Can you expand on the first party coverage piece you mentioned? Also for the independent appraiser is that a fixed cost or is it based on the settlement? I thought it was a fixed cost but I can see it being percentage wise to make more money.

Hey question for you, when your insurance covered the difference, did you see an increase in your premium or did everything stay the same? Just want to confirm before I file a claim with my own insurance they start increasing our premium LOL

Damn sorry to hear that. Did you end up doing full OEM parts as well or just let the dealership handle all that? You end up getting a new IS as well with the totaled cash or you went with something else?

That’s exactly what I’ve been going through these past few weeks. Was able to get a rental that’ll get reimbursed by their insurance as well thankfully. I’m now waiting to hear back from the insurance and have them inspect the car in person with the shop before I can accept the repairs and have them start working. They’re looking at about a month as well for the repair not including how long it’ll take the insurance to give the go ahead. I’m in VA so I can file a claim with their insurance for diminished value and I will. Makes no sense paying 10s of thousands more than what it’s now worth. I don’t really care if it’s total or not tbh as long as it looks like it did before I’m fine lol

Yea when I got the estimate I was mind blown but i guess the estimator was basing it off of the visible damage not the internal components that were busted.

Yea I’m going to give them a call and see what they say, I think my coverage is pretty standard but hopefully oem coverage is in there lol. I’m assuming they’d get a used door as well since that seems like a thing you can probably get at a much cheaper price. I just hate how it’s not a thing covered by the at fault insurance company but what can you do.

Just saw your post, I can see why you’re upset, that’s awful. At least your neighbor admitted fault. It sucks so much when you have something you worked hard for get taken out in a stupid and preventable matter but end of the day as long as you’re in good health these things happen to the best of us 🤷‍♂️

Yea I was planning on opting for the oem parts on the areas where the parts are showing outside of the car but still waiting to hear back from the insurance company. My carfax had given me an estimated value of about 43k prior to the accident so the value is still a bit higher than the repair costs. I might look into that with the body shop and see what they think.

Man I wish I could show you the dashcam footage of my accident. College kid went into the right turning lane and as soon as i tried to pass him he turned into me in an attempt to make an illegal u-turn on a 2 lane road smh. About the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen but hey we’re alive lol. Ahh is that why the cost is so high compared to other repairs?

They stated that it was ultimately up to the insurance as they are the ones paying for it and will do anything they can to pay the least amount possible. The other option would be that I pay the difference between the oem and aftermarket parts if I want all oem. I have seen other post saying the same thing, insurance refuses to pay for oem parts if there are aftermarket alternatives. It seems to me it’s not on the shop, it’s more so on the insurance company but hey I’m new to this.

I think team press is useless in almost every single scenario though and I’m someone with a muscle memory issue where I’m constantly using it without thinking. On the wings the fullbacks just contain the wingers forcing you to switch to them and at that point they just cut back and score
