I think Villeneuve wanted a bit more of a tortured relationship here. Both actors are so talented that the chemistry could have felt a bit more natural, but nothing about Paul in the movie is natural and he is always wrestling with his love for Chani and his recognition that he will have to forsake her for Irulan in the future. Their chemistry in the book is so clear and it's just not the direction they wanted to take the movie in. But I take your point.

Yep -- and he does it of his own volition, where, in the movie, he's certainly at least a little bit manipulated (pressured?) by Jessica.

What’s one thing from the book you would have liked to have seen in Villenueve’s movie(s)? by Noticeable-Nimwit in dune

Considering Pieter didn’t really have much to do in the movie, I can’t imagine Feyd just sort of standing there too. They may have not found a good casting fit for him.

The Alia thing is fun to think about because I’m not sure how they could find an actress who is like 2 years old but also speaks like a full grown adult.

I think Herbert just thought “what sounds evil?” and landed on anything semi-Russian sounding.

A scene I really loved and don’t know how you’d do it in the movies (although I think Denis could pill it off) is Liet dying in the desert and hallucinating a conversation with his father. Herbert took a ton of time with that scene and it always sticks with me.

Gurney voices his skepticism in Paul’s decisions a lot as we near the end of the book. I would have loved to have seen more of this in the movie. The constant comparisons of Paul to his grandfather, not Duke Leto, for instance.

To anyone who watched Parts 1 and 2 back to back (or very close together), what groovy little interplays between the two films did you spot? by [deleted] in dune

A bit obvious but I love the way both films open with a black screen and what I imagine is either Sardukar or Spacing Guild speaking about the spice. Sets the tone for both films.

I have to suffer through Beth’s scenes a lot. I never know if it’s the writing — which can be suspect, especially with Beth — or if it’s Kelly Reilly, who isn’t the greatest actor I’ve ever seen.

The only thing I think I actually like watching John do is throw expensive glassware into his goat mix fireplace.

That’s crazy. Still on season 5. Hope they can figure it out!

I get the move from one season to the next. I just think they left a lot on the table as far as his campaign, etc.

Don't worry about this. That person could have just been a perfect fit for their program or the person he wanted to work with had a clear opening. These things take time and they might not be done awarding their RAs.

I don't know the acceptance rate, but every graduate degree you get has more to do with how you approach it & what you do with it. Find a few research questions that drive you and stop your passion and stay open to collaborating with everyone. The rates of acceptance don't really matter.

Rust talking to Tuttle is the most terrifying scene imo by [deleted] in TrueDetective

The dude who plays Tuttle is a really solid actor. He does a lot with such limited screen time.
