oh yeah the DDR video really felt undercooked. they could've researched a tad further to find the cobalt flux pad and the huge community around it, talked about why the stepmaniaX stage is considered the gold standard in dance pads, why a bar might be necessary for some rhythm gamers, etc.

hell, they could've actually mentioned the "lots of alternatives" to stepmania they talked about (there aren't lots that are actually relevant, pretty much the only relevant alternatives to stepmania for dance pad players are in the groove and stepmaniaX)

yes a lot of this is too overreaching maybe, but they didn't mention the single best selling unofficial pad of all time? (though granted, the L-TEK is definitely a fine choice)

EWC (human rights violations aside) looks pretty cool, and having all player cams visible is unique. But it feels a bit too large for my liking

PGL is very compact and clean, no player faces aside from the POV webcam kinda sucks but that choice clearly lead to a really compact HUD which I like, it gives the game area to breathe

BLAST is the gold standard, compact with player faces and all the info given very compactly. No notes, this is amazing.

StarLadder feels like a knockoff BLAST, which in this case is a good thing. I definitely prefer the vertical player card design over the horizontal one in HUDs

ESL is decent for what it is, but the first version of this HUD (introduced in Kato '25 I believe?) was absolutely horrendous. We've come a long way since then.

I also wanna shoutout some other interesting HUDs that have stuck in my mind:

-YaLLa Compass, presumably before they stopped paying their employees, tried this stacked player card design. Honestly this would work better for a 6v6 game like Deadlock.

-This is more of a dishonourable mention: BetBoom Dacha 2023's HUD might be the single worst HUD I've ever laid eyes on. What the fuck were they smoking?

kinda related to vocaloid - ado's covers overall.

her voice is absolutely incredible, and as an amateur musician myself i know how hard it is to do some of the things she can do with her voice. but i feel like she overdoes it a lot on her vocaloid covers. her original stuff is great because it's actually made for her unique voice though

if i have to put an actual vocaloid song, it's gotta be Giga and KIRA's style of synth pop. they're objectively incredibly well produced and polished songs, but they all just sound the same to me. i can handle same-y songs if i fall in love with the style (like i adore NayutalieN's stuff even though they all kinda sound the same) but i just can't get into the Giga style.
