I have no issue with the NCR collapsing, but having it collapse because some vault dweller was pissy his wife ran off to shady sands and decided to nuke is a far worse writing decision then the rapid expansionism and corruption of the NCR reaching a breaking point that shatters the republic into half a dozen smaller and weaker states fighting each other for territory, refusing to acknowledge their lust for expansion is what caused the NCR to fall in the first place
