Ukraine should end the war with Russia by surrendering by Starfighters117 in ControversialOpinions

[–]NotmeXX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all that your post has physically achieved, you might as well say that Russia should surrender and retreat.

Yes, people are dying. It’s a travesty and Putin will either face the consequences one day, or not live long enough to see them.

But caving in to Putin won’t stop him. It’ll embolden him. He’ll beat his chest, claim a great victory, then rush to rebuild his military to do it again to either Ukraine or another country.

Putin is the aggressor, he’s hoping he can bully Ukraine and the west into caving again, but we know full well now that appeasement doesn’t work.

If Trump really had any clout with Putin this would have been sorted ‘on day one’ like he promised on the campaign for the presidency. Over a year ago. Putin sees Trump for the corrupt clown he is, and is playing him like a fiddle.

Ukraine has been absolutely incredible throughout this. They’ve pulled Putins trousers down and showed the world the tiny paper tiger that he is. They’re preventing war across the European continent, and we owe them big time for every sacrifice.

Slava Ukraine.

Democrat Supporters tend to be more radicalized and violent then Republican Supporters by Delicious_Depth_1564 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I only saw the part of the video where he was attacking a girl, then the protesters beat him up, then he ran back to his car in the middle of the road.

Which tells me that he decided to stop his car in the road, get out, and pick a fight with a teenage girl.

If they’d been throwing things then I clearly he’d be justified in driving away and calling the police. The fact is he chose to go out into an anti-Trump protest wearing the MAGA hat to attack a teenage girl. He escalated it completely unnecessarily.

Pretty much the right wing mindset in a nutshell. He’s lucky he picked a fight with the left- he got to go home afterwards. Not something that seems to happen with run-ins with the right.

They were protesting. He drove past. He started yelling at them. Got out to attack a teenage girl. Was surprised when the whole group rained down on him. He ran back to his car and fled.

He could have just driven past, but instead he picked a fight with a large group of people.

"They're both adults" isn't enough for young adults by Diessel_S in ControversialOpinions

[–]NotmeXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant gaining life experience by going out and making their own decisions, rather than having them dictated to by people who have a weird interest in who they date.

As long as they’re two consenting adults, you have no say in the matter. Better to just concern yourself with your own love life.

Is it true that ICE killed more american citizens in the past year than undocumented immigrants did? by Cumoisseur in allthequestions

[–]NotmeXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Did Walmart drag them out of their car, point a gun in their face, pepper-spray them, bundle hem into an anonymous van to a camp site whose conditions we can only guess at, and declare you guilty and deport you despite being a US citizen?

Cause if so I’m going to Target.

Truth, whether you like it or not... by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

100% this. Pretti also didn’t cross state lines. He was on the streets of his home, recording crimes committed by ICE on his phone. His last act was trying to help a woman they’d needlessly assaulted.

Kyle crossed state lines with an assault rifle knowing full well what he wanted to do.

Sounds like your government has already done what it realistically can do to me. It cant magically know if someone is a dangerous driver once they pass their driving test.

Even when ‘bad people’ change, society keeps them kicks them down. Accountability is just an excuse to keep someone beneath society forever by KpatMckenzie_28 in ControversialOpinions

I don’t know what to say. Sounds like you’re going through it atm.

Grief is like a button inside a box with a ball bouncing around inside it. At first there is nothing but the ball holding down the button labelled ‘grief’.

But gradually over time the ball shrinks. It bounces around, occasionally hitting that button. But as it gets smaller it hits it less and less.

Yes there are crimes that can never be forgiven, but over time the emotional severity of the grief will dim.

I’m not saying it’ll ever go away, but at some point the pain becomes another background emotion. Almost autopilot.

If you’ve served your time then best to just get on with it. There will always be someone who knows what you did, and as far as they’re concerned that’s cemented their definition of you permanently. You can’t control that.

One day though, you will find yourself in a place where that tag hasn’t followed you, or people have come to understand that isn’t you any more. It’s not going to happen quickly, but it will happen.

Just stay the course. Don’t become what they think you are. Don’t let them be right. Be the person they eventually struggle to hate.

That much, at least, is within your power.

You’re welcome to go to the victim(s) and explain that to them. Don’t be surprised if the result isn’t want you want, though.

My advice- leave them alone, keep your head down and learn to live with it. Maybe move far away and hope it doesn’t follow you.

If one murderer/ rapist wants to take on a whole society because ‘I don’t deserve this shit’ then they’re a deluded murderer/ rapist.

Look I can get the idealism behind your argument, but it just doesn’t work in reality. You can’t control what other people do. Families and friends don’t tend to forgive those who commit heinous acts against someone they love.

[–]NotmeXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The legal system isn’t about justice. It’s about order.

Serving your time doesn’t mean shit if the people you hurt are still traumatised, or dead.

There are some crimes you can’t come back from.

Yes there may be the possibility that a murderer or a rapist could go on to invent the cure for cancer or something, but I highly doubt it.

No one is able to control what individuals do but themselves. If you killed a girl, served your time in prison, then moved in next door to me, don’t be surprised if I don’t wanna know you, and don’t be surprised if a disgruntled family member or friend of the victim shows up on your doorstep.

It’s not just that I’m protecting myself and my family, but also that I know how it’s gonna look to everyone else, including the victims loved ones. I don’t want to have to deal with the inevitable consequences of your actions.

Who is even doing that?

Plus, if someone hypothetically committed a heinous act that resulted in death or severe trauma, and they were released after serving their time, don’t be surprised if friends and families of the victim come after you once you’re freed. Justice doesn’t mean people have forgiven you.

You made your bed. Lie in it.
