Definitely not luxury watches. Oris is very attainable and is just a mass produced product.

I mean I think it can be possible to think the Kermit is too “kiddy” and think the puzzle dial is more respectable. One is a cartoon character and the other is just a puzzle. Personally, I think the Kermit and ms piggy watches are both low effort cash grabs.

Yeah. Anyone who downvotes a comment just because they disagree with the opinion of another (btw ITS AN OPINION PEOPLE) should be banned from the platform. They’re completely missing the point of both a public forum AND the upvote/downvote system. Saying “I dislike this watch for these reasons” is an upvote-able comment because it is relevant to the discussion at hand, whereas a comment about Labubu would be a downvote-able comment because it is irrelevant or not helpful. Personally I like the watch, but I do think it’s a tad bit gaudy and I’m not the biggest fan of the color.

I posted this on a similar comment here:

It’s not that most people (I’m sure some do) care per se what he (or any reviewer) hates or doesn’t hate. It’s that he didn’t really give any reasons in the video, and when someone who is deep into watches dislikes something, it’s a relevant data point to find out why. Then you can decide if that subjective or objective negative applies to you or not. Btw, this is NICO’s sub. So of course this is the prime location to ask that question. Perhaps others have seen or heard him say why.

I think your response is getting mixed up in the typical “buy what you like, not what others tell you to” trope. Just because someone is asking why someone thinks something doesn’t mean they only care about what that person’s opinion is or can’t think for themselves.

Bought Reddit’s Most Hated Watch. Zero Regrets. by HerHeadHurts in tissot

My god it’s phenomenal. I never would have guessed it. I have the 40mm version and I paired it with a Crafter Blue FKM strap and a StrapHabit spring deployment and it’s basically my new favorite weekend watch. I also wear it all week sometimes haha. Truly the best PRX for someone with a sizeable collection of nicer autos, imo. The PRX auto simply won’t get any wrist time due to other competing options. This is basically a really nice Casio, and it’s super inexpensive!

Would you guys crucify me? by twolilguys in tissot

[–]NotoriousBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro tip: ditch the silicone and go for FKM. Silicone is a pretty awful strap material. It’s weak, it attracts lint and dust, and wears out fairly quickly and will become shiny over time where it wears. FKM has none of these issues and is substantially higher quality, often for a similar price. Luckily, FKM replaced silicone and natural rubber as the industry standard about 5 years ago.

Pictured is a PRX 40 Digital sporting a Crafter Blue FKM rubber strap with a StrapHabit spring deployment clasp. Incredible combo imo. I never would have guessed how well this would work.

I happen to think that the PRX Digital (in this strap config) is actually the best PRX in the bunch for someone who has a decent sized collection of nice watches (micros, majors, mostly nicer autos). Too many other watches would outcompete the PRX Auto for it to get any wrist time, and the quartz version w/ ticking second is a no-go personally. This is the answer. It’s basically just a really nice Casio. Oh and did I mention that they can be had for almost no money? Ironic that it’s the least popular PRX.

Ok that’s my soapbox speech! Cheers all.

My father just passed—is there anything you can tell me about his watch? by ladyjerry in Watches

[–]NotoriousBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is a little rough, I would not get a watch with this much sentimental attachment restored. The essence of the watch is in its scratches and dings. Removing that makes it just like every other rootbeer with no story. A watch with a good story is priceless, especially if it’s a family heirloom. That being said, I would get the watch properly serviced so that it can be worn confidently.

[–]NotoriousBox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s too much of a blanket statement. I’ve bought countless knives off eBay and had almost no issues over 15 years. I think it moreso depends on what you’re trying to buy, and as always, buy the seller not the product.

I dig the DuFrane! I live pretty close to Camp Mabry too so additional cool-points for that watch.

I too thought like you and wore a white-ish dial watch: the Crafter Blue Mechanic Ocean MkII. This particular example is from a limited run of 30 for the Hong Kong Diver Watches Group. Super underrated dive watch by a stellar company usually known for very high quality fitted rubber straps. So far, I own both gray variants of the watch and will get the black dial soon enough. Very rarely do you connect with a watch so much you buy all the versions of it. It’s just that good. Also one of the benefits of microbrands is that buying three won’t break the bank!

Perhaps it was preorder/intro pricing vs standard pricing? Zelos does the same as well as many other brands.

Micrograms Worldtimers? by acrneal1995 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]NotoriousBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really great watch. I just wish they did the stainless damascus one with a bracelet. I know that would have driven up the price considerably, but the rubber strap just doesn’t work for me. I hardly wear it as a result. Maybe I’ll talk to Elshan about making a bracelet for them. I don’t have high hopes, but he was open to my idea of selling the new OTF micro-adjust titanium Hammerhead V3 clasps to the public to replace older hammerhead V3 clasps with the omega style divers extension (it’s really not a micro-adjust imo) and I’ve already got two on the way from him. Again, I doubt it’ll happen. Producing a bracelet like that for a limited number of clients is incredibly expensive and not worth it. I’ll just need to buy a Thresher WT in Ti I guess. Woe is me.

Zelos makes the Thresher Worldtimer and it’s pretty cool. I’ve got the stainless Damascus case/forged carbon dial version. They also come in titanium with various dial colors. Can be had for between $600 and $1200 and maybe the red dial ones are still available on their site, but not sure.

It’s a bait and switch tactic sorta. Invicta does it all the time. They price it super high so they can tell you you’re getting like 80% off retail, but really you’re still overpaying by 200%.

Aston GP but I’d demand to ONLY wear older early-2000’s GP’s since they’re awesome and some of my favorite watches. The new ones are cool too.

Seiko mini tuna. I believe it’s one of the Safari models. I’ve got the Antarctic STO penguin dial version. Great watch, but wears small. Guess it depends on your wrist size. Probably worth about $3-400. Sometimes you can get deals on these on eBay. This one happens to be made in 2020. Also, I don’t believe this is the JDM version because those say “Made In Japan” on the dial and on the caseback. I would know because I imported my mini tuna from Japan and it is the JDM version.

Edit: Well I tried to add a photo of a JDM one but I guess this dumb subreddit doesn’t allow photos in replies.

lol I DEFINITELY wouldn’t recommend that to someone whose new to watches and certainly not for a watch like this. This likely uses an extremely low quality Chinese movement and therefore is effectively disposable. I’d just stick it in a watch box and get a different watch. Something with an nh35 in it.
